What are you watching?
My mother, who’s been staying with me for a bit, is watching The Gilded Age. She’d already started it before she came, so I’m not watching it with her although I’ve seen bits and pieces. Dr. Feelgood and I are watching Only Murders in the Building which I am thoroughly enjoying. It’s nice and light which has been a nice contrast to the most recent season of Shetland which we finished last week.
How about you? What are you watching? What do you recommend? (Dr. Feelgood wants to–smh–watch Emily in Paris next. Good idea? Bad idea?)
I’ve been watching a new show that we have on the CBC gem app (so I’m not sure if it’s available outside of Canada) that is called Best in Miniature and it’s all about creating miniatures in dollhouses. It’s so fun! My husband and I are also catching up the recent season of All Creatures Great and Small on PBS. Generally speaking though, I watch a lot of shows on the Food Network (Chopped for example) when I feel like having the TV on in the evening.
This is a great post! I’ve been looking for something to binge. I just finished Schitt’s Creek (I know I’m late to the game) and am experiencing post show letdown! I was so blown away by this show and now I can’t really get into anything else. I, too, am looking for something light, or even better, funny. Every time I would ask someone for a rec for something to binge I’d get these really heavy, violent or weird suggestions. I am forever looking for romantic, happy and light and almost never finding it! LOL
Only Murders In The Building looks interesting and I love Martin, Short and Gomez, so that’s a plus. Starstruck also looks good. I’m not sure I can get that though cause I don’t have HBO Max. Bridgerton season 2 is what I’m living for at this point! I can’t wait.
There’s a lovely romance in All Creatures Great and Small between James and Helen, it’s such a wonderful warmhearted who.

Just finished Space Force on Netflix. It was very funny. I’m planning to watch Moon Night next on Disney+. Then might go for The Witcher. I wanted to try Emily in Paris but I read some reviews where the show was criticized for stereotyping the French. I also watch every marvel series and star wars series on Disney+.
I’m looking forward to the Obi-Wan series!
I liked Emily in Paris. It’s light, the fashion is fun and the scenery is beautiful. Emily herself is a little problematic as she is very much an American fish-out-of-water and makes many blunders as a result. But she is a good hearted person.
I also watch all the Marvel and Star Wars series. I have liked some more than others. WandaVision took several episodes to hook me but in the end I loved it. I didn’t like Loki as much but did like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Hawkeye. I like learning more about these characters that are more on the sidelines in the movies. I will watch Moon Knight but I’m really looking forward to Ms. Marvel.
I liked The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett but am really looking forward to some of the upcoming Star Wars shows, including Obi-Wan!
I love this topic! I now have so many new shows to watch. I also am excited for some shows/movies in the works. Julie James is working on a screenplay for Something About You. Flatshare by O’Leary is being filmed in Bristol as a 6 episode show. Reese Witherspoon shared photos on IG of Where the Crawdads Sing coming out in July. Bosch: Legacy is a sequel with his daughter and Honey Money coming out this year and I’m excited for The Lost City coming out March 25th starring Sandra Bullock as a romance writer.
It will be fascinating to see if Where the Crawdads Sing translates well into a film.
I am also excited for more Bosch.

We loved Bosch. I am not a Reacher fan but my husband enjoyed it. My mom has been pushing ACGaS and the new Around the World in 80 Days.
I donate to PBS monthly (because I get the local North Dakota channel here in Manitoba) and because of that I have access to their app and the shows on there. I’m thinking of trying Around the World in 80 Days when we finish All Creatures. But there are some other interesting shows on there too, I quite like Miss Scarlett and the Duke, hoping for a new season in that soon.
I loved Miss Scarlett and the Duke too! I read that filming began for season 2 in the fall of last year but no release date yet, although anticipated for first half of this year.
I love The Gilded Age (HBO Max) – that push and pull of old society vs new money, the outfits, Carrie Coon and Christine Baranski. It’s great.
I am a fan of the The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime) and just finished the most recent season. Unlike other commenters, I found the ferris wheel scene to be funny. However, I do agree that Midge has become a little unlikeable. I love watching Suzie’s journey and actually Joel as well. I disliked him so much in season 1.
I loved Only Murders in the Building (Hulu). I liked the juxtaposition of young Selena Gomez with the much older Steve Martin and Martin Short. They were a fun trio. I also didn’t guess who did it until revealed at the end!
Emily in Paris (Netflix) is pure froth but the clothes and setting are fun.
One short series I highly recommend is With Love (Amazon Prime). It is about the Diaz family – parents, daughter Lily and son Jorge – and their love lives. Each episode takes place during a holiday over the course of a year. It’s nice to see a rom-com that showcases Latino culture (one of the holidays is Dia de los Muertos) and there are also Asian and LGTBQ characters.
And, of course, I am going to binge watch Bridgerton S2 on 3/25 weekend!
I think the casting of Selena Gomez was brilliant. She SO holds her own.
I watched Shetland for several seasons but just can’t watch it anymore as I find it so depressing (though I love the scenery and Doug Henshall). On Britbox I’ve started watching lighter mysteries, such as Sister Boniface and Rosemary and Thyme mystery series. I also like to watch Escape to the Country so I can dream about the countryside I’d like to explore one of these days.
On Netflix, I’ve been watching some of their documentaries (such as the one about Boeing). And for fun, I watch Lucifer.
Looking forward to watching some baseball too.
There is an adorable British show called Starstruck. Season 1 is on HBO Max, and Season 2 has aired in the UK already and will undoubtedly come to HBO Max too. Girl meets boy. Girl has a one-night stand with boy. Girl finds out boy is a big movie star. Girl runs away. Boy follows. Not quite as Cinderella as it sounds, but it’s charming and romantic.
I feel as though sitcoms are “out,” but I have to say that Ghosts (CBS) and Abbott Elementary (ABC) are absolutely delightful. We Are Lady Parts, Rutherford Falls, and Girls 5Eva are all on Peacock and are terrific. Rutherford Falls is co-produced by Mike Schur (Parks & Rec/Good Place/Brooklyn 99) so it has that sweet/funny vibe. Girls 5Eva is produced by Tina Fey and has a 30 Rock vibe. But We Are Lady Parts, about an all-Muslim female punk band, is just *chefskiss*. I love that show and even have the music on a Spotify playlist.
The Great (Hulu) is raunchy historical fun. And Schmigadoon (AppleTV) was great, too. Even if you don’t like it at first, stick around for Kristen Chenoweth’s showstopper song.
We’ve had some medical issues in my family this past year, so the emphasis here on lighter, happier shows is probably a reaction to that.
We loved Starstruck! I can’t wait for Season Two.

I finally got Disney plus and just started Only Murders in the Building. I find the trio charming. Only on 5he second episode.
I power watched Wandavision and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m NOT a Marvel universe or superhero fan but this was sad and exciting. I didnt know the history of Wanda and Vision but I easily followed it. Loved Paul Bethany and Elizabeth Olsen. They have real chemistry .
Upload and Mrs Maisel on Prime are binge worthy.
Other ones I’ve enjoyed or currently enjoying are Killing Eve, Picard(season 2 is on),
Righteous Gemstones, Emily in Paris and Snowpiercer (total Sean Bean fan).
I tried watching the Tourist on Prime but I couldn’t get into it.same with west side story. I loved the original production and actors and this was a pale imitation imho.
I adored the first two seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel but began to hate Midge so much in season three that I was sort of dreading season four. We watched the first episode and I found the ferris wheel scene so silly that we haven’t continued. But, we love Suzie and Joel and his girlfriend so we will probably try again. The Righteous Gemstones was just too much for me. Watched two episodes and quit. The acting is terrific though.

Yes that Ferris wheel episode was silly and we fast forwarded. Midge is not very likeable in season 4 but her comedy is stronger and now I’m in for the 5th and final season. Sophie Lennon is a pretty big part of season 4..I also love Joel and May and his parents are really funny.
I think I want that show to be a lot frothier than it is. I hate the Midge/Lenny will they story–so grim if you know his real history–and I just want Midge to care about her kids.
We finished watching the latest season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. This season felt much weaker than the previous season to me, but it had some good moments here and there, so I’ll of course come back for season 5. Agree on the ridiculousness of the Ferris Wheel scene. This season mostly felt like filler until the last two episodes. I felt the Joel/Mei relationship didn’t advance anywhere meaningful this season, either. I also hear you on people shipping Midge & Lenny, especially if you know anything about Lenny’s real life history. It does, however, add to the poignancy of all the scenes Lenny is in. Luke Kirby gave another great performance in the season finale, IMO. Worth watching just for that.
He is GREAT but I have such a hard pass on him as a romance for Midge. Sorry to hear Joel and Mei didn’t go anywhere–I think they’re adorable together. I resent that Midge can’t be a happy good parent/lover AND a performer. I realize that reality is a bitch but the show takes such liberties with other historical things that I want them to allow a happy ending for all here.
My husband watched Only Murders in the Building, but I couldn’t get into it and shrugged it off after a couple of episodes. I liked Martin Short when he was on-screen, but the show seemed to be a bunch of set pieces in search of a cohesive plot. But that’s just me. Hubby enjoyed it.
We’ve had Season 22 of Midsomer Murders (or “Midders” as we call it in our house) on dvd for weeks but we usually like to watch new episodes with our two youngest daughters, but since one doesn’t live at home and the other has been working on a community theater play in the evenings, we only just got to sit down and watch the first episode last night. Sadly, it was underwhelming to say the least. When the “high point” (and a use the term advisedly) of a show is the naked back view of the actor who played Ron Weasley’s father, you begin to suspect a show has jumped the shark. I’m hoping the next episodes will be better.
And now that a baseball strike/lockout has been averted, I’ll be looking forward to watching some Spring Training games on the MLB Network.
I can’t imagine 22 seasons of anything. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a show with more than 8 episodes!
Outlander, The Gilded Age, Reacher, The Rookie and, new to us, Bosch and Goliath. A new UK series of The Ipcress File just started here and we are liking it.
I’m not watching this yet but I’m very curious about Pam and Tommy. I’ve seen it well reviewed but don’t know anyone personally who was watched it yet.
Theres also so much talk about Euphoria- it’s influencing everything from fashion to makeup, to skincare routines. I have been afraid it’s too ‘young” for me so haven’t tried it out but my curiosity has been piqued.
I did watch and enjoy Licorice Pizza a great deal, despite issues people have raised over the age difference between the two main characters. I will say they nailed the look of the early/mid 70’s completely as well, without fake “glamorizing” it.
I tried watching the first episode of Euphoria but I’m definitely a lot older than their target audience and I wasn’t interested. The acting is excellent. My daughter loved it and finished season 2.
I confess I am mostly interested from a fashion point of view because it’s been so influential lately. I’d probably find it harder to relate to as well. Thanks for the feedback!
