What are You Eagerly Awaiting?
Warm weather is here, or at least it is in my part of the world! I’ve been having fun looking over the new releases for summer and picking out books I’d really like to read. There are new treats to look forward to from Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Hoyt, Meredith Duran, Carla Kelly and Tessa Dare, among others. There’s Kaki Warner’s sequel to Pieces of Sky which I’m dying to read as well as a new medieval from Kris Kennedy whose novel, The Conqueror, I greatly enjoyed. And then there are the debuts that are catching my eye.
Those of you who read here regularly see that each month we post future releases that we want to read. They’re not books we’ve gotten for review; just the books that we as readers very much want to add to our TBRs and hopefully enjoy. For some of these books, we get a chance to interview the authors, too, and that’s always a thrill for me. I love seeing how authors put stories together and with so many, their love of what they do comes through when we talk to them.
So, what books are coming up in the months ahead that you are very interested in reading? And, is there anyone you’d like to see us interview here? We can’t promise anything, but we’re always open to suggestions!
– Lynn Spencer
I’m eagerly awaiting many of the books mentioned above. But the one I’ve been waiting the longest for is Karen Robards “”Shameless.””
Carla Kelly’s Marrying the Royal Marine is on the top of my list. I’m waiting to read the reviews for several other books on this website before I purchase them. Any chance that Carla’s backlist will be reissued soon?
There are many traditional romances on my “”eagerly awaited”” list that were mentioned by previous posters, but two I didn’t see are the conclusion to Karen M Moning’s Mac Lane series and C. L. Wilson’s next one.
MaryK — Cool. Thanks for the link.
I would’ve said I was looking forward to reading Kaki Warner’s Open Country, but I got lucky and got an early copy to review! I finished it this weekend, and it’s fantastic. I loved Pieces of Sky, and Hank’s story is just as wonderful.
I’m looking forward to the next contemporary romance by Lisa Kleypas. I adore her books about the Travis family. And I really like Kresley Cole and Jeaniene Frost, so I’m looking forward to their next books later on this year.
@ MaryK — What’s the McKinley book about? Beauty by her is one of my all-time favorite reads …
Pegasus-es? :) It seems to be similar to His Majesty’s Dragon. http://www.robinmckinley.com/books/pegasus/
I’ll be buying the hardcover. When Chalice came out, I let myself be dissuaded by negative reviews and regretted it because I really liked the book.
I Kissed an Earl by Julie Anne Long
Her last one was a disappointment but I loved the first two in the series so I am hopeful. Plus I love the title:)
When I’ve had time to read lately, I’ve been reading mostly Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy (w/ strong Romantic elements ;) ). I have quite a few of the usual suspects on my to buy list, but I’m really looking forward to:
Andrews, Ilona – Magic Bleeds (kate4)
Andrews, Ilona – Dark and Stormy Knights (antho)
Singh, Knight, Kantra, Brook – Burning Up (antho) – The Book Smugglers say the Brook story is awesome.
Jennings, Elizabeth – Shadows of Midnight
Briggs, Patricia – Masques & Wolfsbane (masques2) – finally!
Robin McKinley – Pegasus
and Songs of Love and Death which will have a Linnea Sinclair short story!
Blood Born by Linda Howard and Linda Winstead Jones. It’s a vampire book!
A Secret Affair….Mary Balogh
Nothing But Trouble….Rachel Gibson

Maya Banks – Colter’s Lady (June 2010) from Samhain…Colter’s Legacy book 2 (this is about the son, Seth)
There are more but those are at the top of my list..
If anyone is interested in getting OPEN COUNTRY a month early, I’m running a giveaway on my website through this month. Just go to http://www.kakiwarner.wordpress.com and leave a comment on my blog answering the question “”To epilogue or not to epilogue””. Good luck!
You all have made my list for me! There sure are lots of books I want to read in the next few months!
@ MariaF – you will love Mouse and Dragon! I’ve read the ARC.
@Kathybaug – somewhere in the message boards here at AAR a quote from Spence-Fleming was posted saying that she finished the manuscript very late and missed her publishing “”slot”” – she and her editor did not want to produce a slap-dash product, hence she had to wait for the next available “”slot”” to do the job the right way…. I agree it’s a bummer.
Lots to look forward to in the next few months:
Burning Lamp by Amanda Quick (April)
Secretive Stranger by Jennifer Greene (April)
Takedown by Julie Miller (April)
Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean (April)
Savor the Moment by Nora Roberts (May)
Now You See Her by Merline Lovelace (May)
Risk No Secrets by Cindy Gerard (May)
Ten Things I Love About You by Julia Quinn (May)
Montana Destiny by RC Ryan (May)
Do You Take This Cop? by Beth Andrews (May)
Barely a Lady by Eileen Dreyer (June)
The Search by Nora Roberts (July)
Risky Engagement by Merline Lovelace (July)
In re delay of Julia Spencer-Fleming’s “”One Was A Soldier””
The following was JSP’s quote and was recently (4/1/10) posted on http://www.examiner.com and also on http://www.inreferencetomurder.typepad.com:
“”The manuscript was so late, I missed my production slot–the date my publisher had reserved for the book to be sold-in, printed, bound, etc. There are a multitude of steps readers never see that go into the proper publication of a book. And yes, with today’s technology a publisher can “crash” a book and skip a lot of correct practices but the folks at Minotaur don’t want my series to suffer. They want to do it right — and so do I. I promise you, it will be worth the wait. I’m extremely excited about getting One Was A Soldier into your hands.””
There are a lot of books coming out over the next few months which I’m looking forward to reading.
Here are a few romance titles I’m particularly excited about:
‘Sugar Creek’ by Toni Blake (June 2010)
‘Ten Things I Love About You’ by Julia Quinn (June 2010)
‘Maid to Match’ by Deeanne Gist (June 2010)
‘Skin Tight’ by Ava Gray (July 2010)
‘Cold Sight’ by Leslie Parrish (July 2010)
‘Hot Finish’ by Erin McCarthy (August 2010)
‘A Kiss at Midnight’ by Eloisa James (August 2010)
I am behind on my reading due to a move but am anxious to get caught up. Books I am eagerly awaiting in the next few months are:
A River in the Sky – Elizabeth Peters
The Secret Duke – Jo Beverley
One Enchanted Evening – Lynn Kurland
One Dance With a Duke – Tessa Dare
TenThings I Love About You – Julia Quinn
Never Less Than a Lady – Mary Jo Putney
Twice Tempted By a Rogue – Tessa Dare
Last Night’s Scandal – Loretta Chase
Forbidden Rose – Joanna Bourne
Marrying the Royal Marine – Carla Kelly
Three Nights With a Scoundrel – Tessa Dare
The Search – Nora Roberts
I love threads like this because I always pick up some titles that I missed. Thanks for all of the great suggestions.
Definitely Carla Kelly’s Marrying the Royal Marine. I rarely even pay attention to when books come out but I’ve been waiting for this one since the first book in the trilogy (Marrying the Captain) came out last year.
Does anyone know why Spencer-Fleming’s book has been delayed? This is the second time. I originally saw it on B&N’s website for Oct. 2009. This is very sad!
Kaki Warner’s Pieces of Sky is one of the best books I have ever read and I am waiting on the next book in the saga! Open Country comes our and June and I can’t wait to get it! I am going to pre-order it so I will get it as soon as it comes out!
I was just about to write the same, Anna L H, about Julia Spencer-Fleming. Waaah!
Fade to Midnight- Shannon Mckenna. I can’t wait.
I also am looking forward to the Kleypas, Roberts, Balogh releases. And new Loretta Chase (looks like an anthology next month and a book in July). But I’m REALLY looking forward to Mouse and Dragon (early June), by Sharon and Steve Miller (Liaden Universe novels)–it’s the sequel to Scout’s Progress.
One book I’m eagerly looking forward to is by an author whom I don’t think has been mentioned much, if at all, here at AAR – Jennifer Lee Carrell. I loved “”Interred With Their Bones””, and can’t wait to read the sequel – “”Haunt Me Still””. If you like Shakespeare and contemporary mystery/suspense, you will love her novels.
I must say, I’m also severely disappointed that Julia Spencer-Fleming’s latest has been bumped back a year. It was supposed to release tomorrow, but now won’t be out until April 2011. Talk about a bummer!
I second most of the books posted by others especially Mary Balogh, Lisa Kleypas and Sherry Thomas. I am also eagerly awaiting Joanna Bourne’s third book Maggie, Boy I wish she could write faster, her first two books were fabulous!
Also, Jennifer Rardin is coming out with an new book in her Jaz Parks series in November. EEEEEEEEEEEE!
May is going to be a wonderful month for romance novels with Nora Roberts (Savor the Moment), Lisa Kleypas (Married by Morning), Mary Balogh (A Secret Affair) and Sherry Thomas (His at Night) all coming out with new books. Meredith Duran is also coming out with new book (Wicked Becomes You) at the end of April that I’m super psyched about!
I just read Changless by Gail Carriger and I’m SUPER DUPER EXCITED for Blameless to come out in September. I also hopped on the Deanna Raybourn bandwagon (which is GREAT) and read all of the Julia Grey books. I’m VERY VERY VERY excited about the next book (Dark Road to Darjeeling) coming out in October.
Anxiously awaiting…
Wicked Intentions – Elizabeth Hoyt
Crazy For Love – Victoria Dahl
Post my most-looking-forward-to for April/May/June:
Last Chance – Christy Reece (April)
Savor – Nora Roberts (April)
Wicked Becomes You – Meredith Duran (April)

One Dance with a Duke – Tessa Dare
His At Night – Sherry Thomas
My Reckless Surrender – Anna Campbell
Married by Morning – Lisa Kleypas
The Forbidden Rose – Joanna Bourne
The Irish Warrior – Kris Kennedy
Open Country – Kaki Warner
I’d have had Fade to Midnight by Shannon McKenna on that list if it were not in hardcover. I’ll either borrow or wait for the paperback.
I don’t think we have space for me to write the whole years worth but for May I am eagerly awaiting:
The Secret Affair by Mary Balogh
Dead in the Family Charlaine Harris
Nothing But Trouble Rachel Gibson
Magic Bleeds Ilona Andrews
Sworn to Silence Linda Castillo
Still the One Robin Wells
Savor the Moment Nora Roberts
JR Ward Lover Mine
Sob! My wallet can’t take this!
I would love to have an interview with Kathleen Gilles Seidel.
