Unconventional Hotness

Predators Sandy’s recent blog about hot guys got me thinking. Does anyone else like the truly bad bad guys that I enjoy watching? I’ve long amused and confused my friends and family with my preferences, and it would tickle to me to find someone who agrees with me.

Take The Predator, for instance. Yes, he’s evil and merciless and the ripping-out-spines-and-skulls for trophies is really gross, but boy-o-boy is he masculine. That huge chest and muscular thighs, his athletic stunts, the whole raising his trophy above his head and roaring thing he has going on just gets me. Even the crazy dreads are cool. I root for him in every movie.

Another hot bad boy is is Shan Yu from Disney’s Mulan. Yes, I know he’s a nasty Hun, unprincipled, devious and cruel, but I’d much rather watch him than the insipid hero Li Shang. The scenes I enjoy most are where he’s trying to outrun the avalanche on his little pony, riding with all his skill and keeping the pony upright by his strength alone. What a man. The artists who drew him and the actor who is his voice are to be commended.

And what about the head Uruk-hai that battles Aragorn after killing Boromir in The Fellowship of the Ring? OK, yes, he’s filthy and his teeth are appalling, but have you taken a look at those thighs, his entire physique? The actor playing him is truly blessed. What is he in real life? A professional football player? A pro wrestler? I haven’t wanted to check and spoil the mystique. I even feel sorry for the character when Saruman tells him that he’s the product of what used to be elves, tortured and mutilated until deformed. Whatever the character’s origins, watching him in battle is a thing of beauty.

Other ladies can keep their pretty boys. I like the ultra masculine characters no matter how vile.

Anyone else?

Shan Yu from Mulan…totally. Thought I was the only one to think he was more appealing.

I’m totally with you on this Wendy. I like Vin Diesel too. I always thought he should play Ranger from the Janet Evanovich books.

Victoria S: The Beast was HOT, that prince too much hair gel not enough cojones.

I like a guy who looks like he is competent and confident in almost any situation. Someone who has a little living on their face. Not the prettiest guy in the room, check. Not necessarily the nicest guy in the room, check but the guy who is gonna get the job done right without a bunch of whining and posturing, check and mate

Well said, Victoria!

Wendy, I gotta agree with you. I’ve got a friend who says that some of us like a guy “with a little thug in him.” Now, I’m not talking stalker, wife-beater wearing, Ike Turner kind of thug, but a guy, who in a robbery, would at least try to defend me, not run away screaming like a girl.

In Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, when the beast turned back into the handsome prince, I thought to myself, “girl, you’ve been cheated.” The Beast was HOT, that prince too much hair gel not enough cojones.

Two movies I watch every time they’re on; Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick. Two words , Vin Diesel. Now this is a guy who knows how to be a guy! A little bit bad, a little bit good, the bald head and a truly beautiful body.

Peter Florrick, Eli Gold and Kalinda Sharma are hot, Will Gardner is not
(The Good Wife).

I like Roarke (In Death books) because while he is pretty and rich and all around fabu, he also doesn’t hesitate to do what is needed to help Eve, and a little to the left of legal doesn’t bother him overmuch.

I like a guy who looks like he is competent and confident in almost any situation. Someone who has a little living on their face. Not the prettiest guy in the room, check. Not necessarily the nicest guy in the room, check but the guy who is gonna get the job done right without a bunch of whining and posturing, check and mate :-)

Nope, not really but then I don’t watch a bunch of movies and if I do they tend to be romantic comedy. The love you have for your urban fantasy books sounds like it is duplicated in the type of movies you watch.

I think George Clooney was a bad guy once, does that count(grin)?
