Tis the season to be sick…
…which is what I’ve been, for the past few days. I’ve been trying to make it through autumn in a public school, which is a positive germ’s playground, but no success. Combination flu, fever, cold, and all-round yuckiness.
Being sick has its downsides (duh), but the good side is that I’ve been getting tons of well-needed rest, and I’ve been reading heaps. I’ve been puttering around the house between the sofa, my bed, and the kitchen. The sofa and bed are just to give variety to my routine, when my aching muscles can stand to get up.
The kitchen, of course, is for well-needed sustenance. My go-to food, for general illnesses, is good old chicken noodle soup. Amazing how water, MSG, and pasta can be so comforting. And my go-to drink is good old lemon-honey water. It sure does the hurting throat good.
What do you do when you’re sick? Any special home remedies?

Thanks for the well wishes! Basically better now. Leigh, I found that the acidic tomato or lactate cream soups irritated my throat, so chicken noodle soup all the way.
Shoot! That was supposed to include the sentence: Hope you feel better soon, Jean.

Being sick stinks. I always have a very tense fall till I get my flu shot. The flu is just so darn evil.
I have a history of getting raging sinus infections one or two times a year, usually with the weather change. I usually try everything over the counter, but ultimately end up dosing myself with Benadryl. Then all I do is sleep, and sleep and sleep. It’s really a bummer because it makes me so drowsy that I don’t even feel like reading. My choices are stay awake and be miserable, or sleep and dry up the secretions.
I do reach for soup sometimes but chicken soup just doesn’t do it for me. My choices range between tomato, or cream of celery or butternut squash soup Tomato is from my childhood (with grilled cheese sandwiches) and cream of celery and the squash are just personal favorites.
Hope you feel better soon.
