The Most Exclusive Piano in the World

Steinways may be the most well-known pianos in the world. But Faziolis are probably the most exclusive. They’re family-owned. They’re entirely individually hand-crafted, by request, in a tiny village northeast of Venice. They make both classic beauties and modern jewels. And they turn out less than 150 pianos a year. (Steinway makes around 4000 a year, from their New York and Hamburg workshops. And they can only claim to be “almost entirely” crafted by hand.) I have never had the honour to play a Fazioli, but the minute I read about them in T.E. Carhart’s wonderful The Piano Shop on the Left Bank, I had a new addition to my “Things To Do Before I Die” list. Check out a Fazioli in action, courtesy of Jon Schmidt and a very cool arrangement of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” and Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida”.
