the ask@AAR: Have you checked out our new forums?
Have you checked out the new forums at the Agora? We redesigned them, offered lots of new was to interact, and continue to tweak them. (There are SO many options!)
Many here at AAR were highly displeased when we shut down the forums two years ago. We did so because the software we used kept crashing our site, slowing it down, and opening us up to endless spam attacks. Since then, I’ve searched for another option and–fingers crossed–I think I’ve found it.
What do you think of the new forums? What would you like to see us add? How are they working on your end?
I have been an AAR fan since it was LaurieLikesBooks & I am so happy to see lively, active forums again. Thank You! Here I go down the rabbit hole, again :-)
Not so sure I’ll comment alot, but I did enjoy reading other’s comments which now I can’t do, SO I though – no big deal, I’ll register.. but so far nada
I thought I registered on Sunday but I haven’t got the confirming email so far; yes, I did check the spam folder, Do I need to try again.
I have sent you a password.
Works. After poking around I was able to find the place to update it. Thanks!
Yay!
Not being fond of rabbit holes, I really appreciate that they are available for all you rabbits out there, and I am thankful that you are using them. Dabney, thank you so much for improving them and giving us all options for using this site in ways that fit each of us!
I aim to please!
I’m enjoying the forums a lot. I love the format and like that we can go on rabbit trails there if we want or start a topic not strictly related to books. It’s fun.
I personally enjoy a “like” buttons for comments. For example, when someone responds to my post, but I don’t necessarily want to take space saying “Thanks!” or “I agree.” so it’s a nice way to acknowledge their response. But I can live without it.
I agree about the like button, although I would prefer that its use remain anonymous on the Agora if only because someone might be concerned about having their screenname associated with liking a controversial post. Just a thought.
I am checking to see if we can do that.
I am still working on that.
However, now only REGISTERED guests can read the topics and see replies.
Every format needs getting used to, so I honestly cannot say yet.
Occasionally I look at them, especially if I see there is activity.
Which right now, there seems to be.
However, I cannot participate:
I cannot get in.
I tried the “forgot password” and it told me invalid mail, so I am not quite “there” yet.
I cannot promise to be active, I fluctuate – more time, less time, more wish to discuss, less wish. But I am glad that we try it out, and hopefully it will attract many of us.
Good to see you again, Lieselotte! For a while, I was worried you left AAR with some of the other regular commenters.
If it makes you feel any better, I couldn’t get into the Agora either at first. There’s some glitch with the website that hasn’t been resolved yet. Dabney had to help me and a few other commenters log in. But once she did that, I haven’t had a problem since. Good luck!
Thanks for that, and No Worries, Nan!
I occasionally have more work, or cut back on screen time, that is all.
Yes, the last big discussion did tire me a bit, but that just meant noticing that I need a bit of a break, trying to check the site just once a day or every two days, not daily multiple times — nothing more than that :-)
I tend to reach a laid back position in the end, about people’s different ways of discussing and views in a forum like this, because I am not here to prozelytize or police.
It’s lovely to have you back and I hope you’ll participate in the forums when it works for you!
If you log onto the site–you should see a login link in the upper left of this page–you should be able to sign in. If that doesn’t work for you, let me know.
I registered, and wait for a mail with a pw.
Hope that works.
Works :-)
I really like the forums as a place to discuss broad romance topics as well as tangents that would otherwise get out of hand on the AAR ASK and review pages. The new format looks nice and readable.
Agreed!
