Great post Jon! I have been following the #p2 effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.

I am not sure I’ve read many small publisher novels–but then I’m not very good at looking at who does the publishing when reading a novel. I would love to be included in the giveaway.

Thus far, I’ve only bought Robin Kaye’s book Romeo, Romeo, so my knowledge is limited on the array of authors they sell.

My Favoritie publishers:
E-Books: Ellora’s Cave (They are one of the few that publishes a good number of medievals)
Print: Medallion Press (The first publisher that I have ever seen that published a non-paranormal German Historical without an English hero/or heroine)
I have never read a book from this publisher but I am always interested in new authors because once I am hooked I will buy an entire back list if I can find it. I am happy that this came at this time because it has a long time where I have had enough time to read anything that was not related to school. I just finshed my first year of Graduate School last week and it was surprising to see how few books I had bought in the last 9 months so I am ready to have some new reading material and some time to read it.

I have some of the authors on my shelf, but have never had the opportunity to read them. Its refreshing to know that big name authors can be with small time press.

I didn’t know that Cheryl Brooks and Linda Wisdom were with small presses – I’ve read their stuff and been impressed. Hmm. Do Samhain and Ellora’s Cave count as small presses?

I heard a lot of positive buzz about Mary Margaret Daughtridege’s SEALed with a Kiss. I am looking forward to reading Michele Young’s The Lady Flees Her Lord. I like non traditional books. It is refreshing to read about a heroine who isn’t petite and drop dead gorgeous.

Love the Sourcebooks and have met Marie Force, last year, at the NJRW Conference. What a sweety. My B&N Romance Readers Group also enjoy the Sourcebooks. I see a few new names that I am definitely going to look for their books.

Truth is, I never think about publishing houses. I simply read whatever story looks interesting or is recommended by others. Most new to me authors I get from the library since I can’t afford my book habit… but I’m always looking for new books to read.

Marie Force – Line of Scrimmage

Mary Margaret Daughtridge – SEALed With A Kiss and SEALed With a Promise

Robin Kaye – Romeo Romeo & Too Hot To Handle

I wondered who the publisher was, when I was reading Sealed with a Kiss.
(which I enjoyed)

Per word of mouth, I have heard wonderful things about Romeo Romeo and Line of Scrimmage, and now have them in my tbr pile.

Since I have had such great luck with these books, I would love to read the rest of the authors.

Small press books often are the first place one can read new and exciting authors. It helps get there voices out to the general public.
I think quite a few popular novelists must have started their careers with small press publishers.
