Some Musings on the "New" TV Season

Pin awful dressSince AAR’s Annual Reader Poll began nearly two weeks ago, I’ve been watching a lot more TV than usual. Each evening, after working out and eating a quick dinner, I spend several hours entering ballots. Last weekend I spent a good chunk of both days in the same way, and since I’m so far behind right now, it looks like this weekend will be more of the same (but I’m not complaining, keep those ballots coming in).

Sadly, I can’t read print books at the same time, and can’t even listen to audio books while I enter ballots (just too distracting). So, I’ve resorted to more TV.

Fortunately, sometime in January each year, we begin to get some new TV shows, as well as the return of non-reruns for other shows. So, I’ve had quite a selection to watch out of the corner of my eye.

Happily, a new season of Project Runway has just started. This has always been one of my favorite reality shows, but last season (in L.A.) was a big disappointment.  So far, I’m really enjoying the new season. It’s back in New York where it belongs, and Nina Garcia and Michael Kors are back as regular judges. Overall, the quality of the designers seems pretty good this season, with some interesting personalities.

In fact, the only irritating aspect of the season so far was the non-elimination of Ping two weeks ago for the dress posted above. I wish I could show you the back of the dress. Believe me, it showed way more than anyone wanted to see. But, Ping was booted this week, so I’m happy again.

I’ve never been a huge American Idol viewer, but have even watched the auditions the past two weeks. It looks like there are going to be some good singers this season. However, I just can’t get over strange feelings about the season. First, Paula Abdul is no longer a judge, and instead, she’ll be replaced by Ellen DeGeneres. I have nothing against Ellen, have even enjoyed her show a few times, but she was just awful as a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance a few seasons ago, and I am not looking forward to seeing her on AI. And then, the news that Simon is leaving the show, leaves me wondering if this might be the end of the show.

On a brighter note, I’m continuing to enjoy Castle. In particular, I love the growing banter and friendship between Castle and Beckett. Admittedly, some of the mysteries are convoluted to say the least, but the cast is so enjoyable, that I keep watching.

Yes, I’ve even watched some truly dreadful things to entertain myself. Just what are those women thinking on The Bachelor? And The Real Housewives of Orange County? Yuck! I’ve actually enjoyed — in a guilty pleasure type of way — the New Jersey and Atlanta versions, but the O.C. version is just too much even for me.

Okay, back to entering ballots, and to a What Not to Wear marathon.

Any guilty TV pleasures for you? Do you like Castle?

An interesting article will be worth comment. I do think you must write a little more about this niche, it might not become a ‘taboo’ topic area yet normally folks are not enough to dicuss in these kinds of themes. Adios for now! ! !

I do agree with all of the ideas you’ve offered for your post. They’re very convincing and will definitely work. Still, the posts are very brief for starters. May just you please lengthen them a little from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.

I watch only one current show–ONE. And it is a must-see for me every Thursday night. I do my best to make sure I’m in front of the tv at 8pm central, dialed into the CW channel for ‘Supernatural’. I’m not a fan of blood and gore, and I’m really not into either sci-fi or horror–but still, this show is the first one in many, many years to capture my full attention. It’s a masterpiece in both writing and cinematography, and the actors are both very hot and supremely talented. Truly an amazing combination! It has slowly gained the attention of a wider audience, and this year was named Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy show during the People’s Choice awards–an outstanding achievement given the glut of that type of show now on the airwaves.

Well, I seldom watch TV at all but when I do it’s Tru-TV, especially if they have World’s Wildest Car Chases on. Then there’s always the Food Network

I adore Castle and I think the writing is getting better and better. I love how they are really taking time to grow the friendship between Castle and Beckett this season. It feel very organic, not forced and I think in the long run that may make for a sucessful transition to a romantic relationship between the two. It won’t feel so contrived or like Jumping the shark as has happened so often in TV. The writers seem to have a good grasp on these to characters and hopefully they can keep this show fresh and fun for a long time. Oh and I must comment the supporting cast is fantastic too.

I love Project Runway. And I’m so glad the new season seems to be a lot better than the one in L.A.

I don’t care for reality TV, but I love Castle. I enjoy Nathan Fillion in anything (Firefly was wonderful), and I like that Castle is a show even my 13 yr old can watch.

My guiltiest pleasure is Grey’s Anatomy. I spent the summer watching seasons 1-5, and then started watching along this fall. I think most of the characters are TSTL (too stupid to live), but somehow I can’t stop watching. Like a train wreck with multiple injuries. Yeah, I’m sick.

The other shows I regularly watch are Bones, NCIS (and NCIS:LA), Numb3rs, The Mentalist, Eureka, and Lie to Me.

Gosh. I watch more TV than I thought! :-P
