Self Checkout Counters

plano-general-SCOPersonally, I love them.  It means I can zip in, zip out, and if I screw up, I know exactly who to blame.  And once you get the systems sorted, they’re easy to use.  My mum hates them though, because the way the bags are weighed just pisses her off.

I used to love them even more at the library, where it meant I could hide the fact I was borrowing stacks of romance novels (hangs head in shame).  But ever since I came out of the closet – so to speak – it only mattered that I could get my books hyper-quick.  And I love gadgets.

These self-checkout machines (German, it looks like) appear mega-spiffy, though, rather like X-ray machines.

What about you?  Use ’em, hate ’em, or love ’em?

Thanks for your blog post. The things i would like to make contributions about is that personal computer memory must be purchased should your computer still cannot cope with what you do with it. One can mount two good old ram boards with 1GB each, in particular, but not certainly one of 1GB and one of 2GB. One should look for the company’s documentation for own PC to make sure what type of ram is necessary.

Just proves exactly how remarks that are actually understandable use a higher chance of becoming approved with a blog’s proprietor.

The core of your writing while sounding agreeable in the beginning, did not really work properly with me after some time. Someplace throughout the paragraphs you managed to make me a believer but only for a while. I however have got a problem with your leaps in assumptions and you would do well to help fill in all those gaps. If you can accomplish that, I could certainly be impressed.

I volunteer at one of the branches of my local public library, and it’s interesting to watch the patrons as they approach the self-checkout areas. There is a direct correlation between a patron’s comfort level with computers and whether or not he/she will use self-checkout! Yes, many seniors feel comfortable with self-checkout, but there are always a couple of staff members available for those (seniors and others) who don’t!

I shop at Costco on occasion, and a couple of their check-out lines are now self-service. That’s fine, except for the fact that I usually manage to get in line behind someone who is buying several hundred dollars worth of merchandise!! A suggestion to Costco, Home Depot and other retailers: please make at least one of those self-service lines 10-15 items or less!

Hate them at the grocery, and only use them if I have a few items. Half of the time I get errors for lightweight things, get scolded when I remove a bag, and the lines are enormous. They haven’t appeared at my local library.

Have no problem at the library at all.

And I love them at the grocery store because I can handle my bananas and other fruit/vegetables in the gentle way they should be treated. There is always at least one employee in charge of the self-checkouts so if something goes wrong, assistance is right there to help out. Would never ever stand in line again.

At the library, fine. At the grocery store, they’re just okay as long as I have two bags or less worth of stuff. More than that, and you need to remove the bag, and then you get reprimanded for removing it. Dumb.

I use them at the library. Love them. I really don’t need a check-out person looking over her/his glasses at me while checking out a romance novel with one of those half-naked covers. Please…spare me. Other than that, I haven’t used the self-checkout. I would rather have a real person.

Love ’em!! I always use the ones at Wal-Mart and Krogers and I never have a moment’s trouble. I’d rather use the self check since I’m usually faster than the cashier. I have a co-worker though, who swears that he’s a jinx. To hear him, all he has to do is go to the self-checkout and it malfunctions.

Like them at the library, really dislike them at the grocery store, unless I’m only getting a handful of items and none of them have a produce code. Then I don’t mind. Otherwise, please open some of the check-out lines again with really people manning them.

Hate ’em. They are just too quirky for me. And now in DC we have to pay a 5 cent tax when you get a plastic bag, so now your groceries just hang out in bagless land until you can get down there with your recycling bags.

if they worked right, I’d be all for it.

Love ’em!! Especially the ones at the library. The only time I don’t like them is when I take my younger two shopping with me…they keep touching the scales and sending the machine into a fritz….ACK!!!

One of our libraries has self checkout and it’s a great process. I wish all the library branches offered this service. At the supermarket, I have mixed feelings. If I only have a few items, it usually works fine. But when I have quite a few purchases, then inevitably there’s a mixup with coupons or something that makes me call the cashier and then there’s a wait. So, at the store I try to avoid them unless the other lines are way too crowded.
