RWA (and AAR) is in the Big Apple!

One of the most fun parts of Romancelandia is the annual Romance Writers of America conference held each year in July. Last year it was in sweltering San Antonio and this year, still sweltering, its attendees are in New York City.

I arrived here on Sunday afternoon and spent the afternoon walking and sweating profusely. My phone claimed it was a measly 96 degrees–I’m sure with the heat of the traffic and the asphalt, it was well over 100. But who cares? This is New York, a city where you can find just about every kind of activity you can imagine.

I’m here a bit early because my eldest son lives here now and this is the first chance I’ve had to visit him here. (First mom job: Buy him a second set of sheets and a few more towels–he has just one of each.)

Blythe and Lynn arrive on Tuesday and then it’s a whirlwind of panels, interviews, dinners, parties, and awards. Yes, we know, it’s a rough gig.

We wish you were here too. Since you aren’t–and we are–we’d like to hear what you’re interested in. Is there a question you’re dying to ask your favorite author? Let us know what it is and we’ll see if we can ask her. Wondering where your favorite sub-genre is heading next? We’ll see if we can find out for you. Want snaps of the hot cover models? Well, we’ll do our best.

Use the comment section below to share your requests. We’ll be reporting over the next week.

Thanks!

Dabney, Lynn and Blythe

Lisa Kleypas is finally releasing a historical again, I want to know if she has more planned. Julia Quinn is going back to the Bridgertons, I want to know more about that too.

If possible, I would like to know about the general trends in romance publishing:
(1) If, e.g., new adult and motorcycle clubs are currently popular, what will we see thematically in the (near) future? What genres are on the decline? What are on the rise?
(2) Every book published seems to be part of a long, continuing (even non-ending?) series. Have we reached overload on this? Is there any change in sight (e.g., shorter series with end points, standalones, etc.)?
(3) Maybe this is an ongoing issue, I don’t know, but it appears that more and more e-books are being published (and/or reviewed on romance websites). Is this accurate? What is their popularity compared to print books? What about self-published e-books vs. traditional publisher e-books? What about the quality (how does editing/art – or lack thereof – affect sales/popularity)?
Thanks!

I like these questions. :) No trend can last forever!

Honestly, what I’d really like to know is if Sylvia Day’s final Crossfire book is EVER going to be released! She was asked that here in Canberra in March, and now it’s the end of July, and…

These are questions that have been on my mind, too, and I suspect you’ll probably be hearing more from all three of us on these.

In addition to coverage on the blog, please note that we’ll be livetweeting from RWA on Twitter. You can find the site feed at @AllAboutRomance. I’ll also be covering some workshops from my own feed (@LynnAAR), and you can find Dabney and Blythe at @DabneyGrinnan and @blytheaar . Dabney’s already in NYC and she’s been tweeting pictures that make me really want to sneak in a visit to the Met!

Any news from Sherry Thomas, Courtney Milan and Meredith Duran would be great. I know MD has two books coming out soon, but I’d love to know what’s next. Oh, and Julie Anne Long has just finished an eleven book series – how does that feel and what’s next for her?

I’m sure I will think of more … :)

Exactly my questions! Duran, Thomas, and Milan are among my favorites, and so I always want to know what their working on. Also, since Thomas has just published a contemporary, I’m curious if she’s staying in this genre or going back to historical romance writing.

Joanna Bourne’s next book?

Oh yes, and Julie Anne Long too since she’s wrapping up her Pennyroyal Green series, presumably. What’s next for her?

That is the first thing I’m going to ask Julie. I have an interview set up with her for Friday!

How exciting! I just want to know when my favorite authors are going to release their new books. And since I have lots of favorite authors, I hope you know which ones those are. :) Have a great time!
