Playing Games

black_cobra_screen_shot Between end of the year work and getting ready for the holidays, I’ve been a little short on reading time lately.  Life is fun, just really hectic.  When I got an email from Avon announcing that they had created a new game based on Stephanie Laurens’ Black Cobra Quartet, I thought it might be fun for a quick break.  I was right about it being a diversion – but I got sucked in for entirely too long.

The game is called Crazy Cobras, and you can find it here.  If you’ve read the Laurens books, the basic characters will be familiar to you.  And if you’re not familiar with these books, the ones I’ve read so far are very fun adventure historicals which I’d recommend.  At each level of the game, you will be assigned one of the four heroes from the books and your task is to collect all of the gems before the cobras get you.  Easier said than done. I was so determined to make it to the end, but my utter lack of hand-eye coordination caught up with me each time.  Stopping to watch my cat get mesmerized by the cobras onscreen didn’t help either.

I’m not a big gamer, but I do like to play around online every now and again to blow off steam.  In a way, this game reminded me of arcade games from when I was in elementary school.  The movements of the characters and the manner in which one must gobble up gem after gem definitely made me think of Pacman.  The graphics also remind me of the older games from the late 80s/early 90s. So, if you’re looking to take a quick break and play with something fun on the internet, I’d definitely recommend it.  Also, it’s free, so the price point is just right!

So many games, so little downtime, sniffle, sniffle. Thanks for letting us know about this one, Lynn.

Many casual games have been made from books, mostly mysteries and classics, but a few romances also. My favorite spot for inexpensive (not free) games is http://www.bigfishgames.com.

And some of my favorite games are those made from Agatha Christie’s books. I love the music and the graphics so much that I often get caught up in listening and looking, and not playing the game at all!

Sherlock Holmes, the Women’s Murder Club, Robinson Crusoe, and Sweeney Todd are some of the characters featured in the games, and Edgar Allan Poe and Tanya Huff (Blood Ties) are some of the authors. Even Norah Roberts’ Vision in White is there.

I have NO affiliation with the site, but as a casual gamer and member (membership is free) I highly recommend it.
