Magnolias

12Nat037My favorite late-spring flowers are magnolias. We don’t have any in the garden ourselves, but there are some in a nearby park, and I love going there or just cycling past the park and seeing the pale pink blooms. With spring being so late here in Germany this year, it’s only very recently that they’ve been blooming.

If I had a larger garden, I would plant a magnolia tree. As matters stand, we only have space for two trees (apple and plum), and I am very happy with these and with harvesting the fruit in fall, but some part of me longs for magnolias. Small wonder I take lots of pictures of them!

What are your favorite late spring flowers or flowering trees?

Actually in Seattle the magnolias are early spring blooming flowers. I love when the petals fall all over the sidewalks making a colorful but slippery carpet.

My favorite is the crabapple, which has beautiful white blooms for at least a month during the spring.

We have magnolias too, and I adore them also. Since moving to Texas I’ve learned to appreciate the bluebonnets and fuschia (sp?) and indian paintbrush here, but I still miss the dogwood and honeysuckle and mock orange blossoms from my old home, Alabama.
