Happy New Year!
Happy 2010! It’s hard to believe we’re this far into the 21st century already. Last year – heck, the last decade – gave us some wonderful books, and from what I’ve seen of books this year so far, it promises to be a good reading year. I’ve read a good 2010 release or two so far (more on that tomorrow), and there’s still a lot to look forward to.
As with every year, there will be plenty of debut authors. I always try to pick debut books from our list of books for review here because every year I end up discovering an author or two whose voice I really enjoy. This past year, I enjoyed debuts from Tessa Dare, Kris Kennedy, Carla Capshaw and Lavinia Kent, among others, and I am excited to see what treasures are in store for this year.
I’m also excited to see what might come of the launch of Carina Press. I’ve been following their blog for information about books acquired there and when releases start coming out this spring, there are definitely some that I want to try. Carina seems interested in publishing books with a wider range of settings and story types. Their blog describes a range of acquisitions running the gamut from a historical set in early 19th century Salzburg to contemporaries to romantic suspense and paranormal.
And then there are the releases from the authors I already know I like. Some of my romance auto-buy authors including Laura Kinsale, Connie Brockway, Julia Quinn, Carla Kelly, Joss Ware (Colleen Gleason under another name), Meredith Duran and Karen Ranney have new books out in 2010. And that’s not even an exhaustive list of my must-read authors. For the first time in years, I’ve been noticing that my auto-buy list has been expanding at a rather alarming pace.
And then there are the reprints! Among other things, Sourcebooks is releasing a US edition of Susanna Kearsley’s The Winter Sea, which American readers have been awaiting. Sourcebooks will also start reprinting Laurie McBain’s historicals (I still remember my mom hiding these so we kids wouldn’t find them!) this year. Part of Roberta Gellis’ backlist is continuing to come back into print at Cerridwen, and Adele Ashworth’s My Darling Caroline is being re-released very soon.
I think we readers are going to be very blessed with books this year, and I know we’re all looking forward to reading and reviewing them here. Who knows what discoveries await? So, what books are you most looking forward to reading in 2010?

I am very excited about this year! While I very much love historicals (first) and paranormal (second) romances, I find it very ironic that I only have two auto-buys, both in paranormal romance; Sherrilyn Kenyon and J.R. Ward.
As such, I am beyond psyched for Ward’s book Lover Mine which arrives this April!
The books scheduled for Kenyon’s release are a good handful for this year, as they pretty much are every year, really.
No Mercy- in August (This one I’m beyond thrilled for, without question!)
Infinity- in June (her first YA, but no doubt it will still be amazing),
Silent Truth- in April (with Dianna Love)
In Other Words- in June (3 or 4 of her compiled short stories)
And, lastly, volume II of the manga series adapted from her series, Night Pleasures, which comes out, I believe, in March.
Just so everyone knows, The Winter Sea is being reissued as Sophia’s Secret.
I’ve had the privilege of reading two debut authors, Lucy King and Rachel Bailey and they are both incredible authors. I would highly recommend both of their books.
I can’t wait to read the new, long awaited Laura Kinsale, LESSONS IN FRENCH. Other books that I am anticipating are:

WICKED BECOMES YOU looks like a lighter read from Meredith Duran
HIS AT NIGHT perhaps also a lighter read from Sherry Thomas?
THE FORBIDDEN ROSE, Maggie and Doyle’s story from Joanna Bourne
LADY ISABELLA’S SCANDALOUS MARRIAGE – Jennifer Ashley has me firmly hooked on the MacKenzie men
FADE TO MIDNIGHT – Shannon McKenna – if this is Kevin McCloud’s story, I’m in!
WICKED INTENTIONS – Elizabeth Hoyt is an auto-buy and my interest was piqued by the excerpt at the back of To Desire a Devil.
ON THE STEAMY SIDE – I really enjoyed Louisa Edwards’ debut, Can’t Stand the Heat and look forward to revisiting the crew at Market.
LION’S HEAT – I believe this is Jonas Wyatt’s story and I can’t wait to see what Lora Leigh puts him through!

I have been tracking with bated breath the release of Julia Spencer-Flemming’s next Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne novel, Once Was A Soldier, now scheduled for April 2010. I think you turned me on to her, Lynn (or maybe Rachel), and her hugely atmospheric and beautifully romantic mysteries were my favorite new author find in 2009.
