Greetings from London
I have a new home for the next several months, and that home is the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. So far it hasn’t rained, I’m still irritated with the exchange rate, and I’ve gotten much better at crossing the street. I’ve gone on several strolls through Hyde Park, walked through Mayfair, and had a lovely time envisioning London of the 19th century, as depicted in so many of my favorite romance novels. Next up: the Tower of London!
And then tomorrow, the vacation stops– it’s time for class. My classes should all be interesting: British Life and Cultures, British History, and British Politics. All the better to appreciate the intricacies of Regency and Victorian England!
Jane –
I hope you have a wonderful time! London is one of my very favorite cities. Now that I’m done with school, I miss having the chance to take nice long breaks. So envious of your months abroad! :-)
Jane: I love Kensington! As for the exchange rate, it is SO much better than in the past few years, so thank your lucky stars — really!
Your classes sound wonderful! Have fun and do continue to keep us posted.
I can’t wait to read about more of your experiences in London, Jane. The classes sound interesting.
My daughter has lived in London for the past year and plans to live there probably until April of next year. She absolutely loves it and has taken many opportunities to travel, since everything is so close in travel and time to where she’s at. She sends enough pictures thru Facebook that I almost feel as though I know it. We visited Boston last year and she tells me that parts of London are so similar to areas in Boston. Well, when you think of it, it does make sense. We hope to visit her there sometime next year before she leaves.
I’m jealous of your opportunity to live in another country — and in London, no less! I’ve encouraged my children to do exactly what you’re doing, as I think it’s a wonderful and potentially life-changing experience. Of course, I can’t complain too much, as my husband and I will be in London on Thursday, although only for a week. Explore, enjoy, and let us know via the occasional blog how you’re doing.
