You spoke… we’re listening!
Thank you to the hundreds of you who filled out our survey. You’ve given us lots to consider. You had many many great suggestions.
Here are a few things we’ve already implemented:
We made the sidebars less busy.
We added a link where you could see more comments. (It’s here.)
We fixed–YAY!–the Power Search.
We’ve made the design consistent throughout the site.
We will continue to improve AAR based on your suggestions over the next few months.
We have also worked on, for those of you who subscribe, our daily newsletters. We have traditionally just sent out one, for our daily Steals and Deals. We have added a new newsletter that has all the contents–the blogs, the reviews, and the Steals and Deals in one email. (You can subscribe to that at the bottom of our Home Page.) Both newsletters have unsubscribe links so you can pick the one that works for you.
Please continue to give us your brilliant ideas.
Thanks!
I spoke to the comment developer and, I think, the comment problem is fixed!!! Please let me know if it still isn’t working for you.
The Donate to AAR link on the Home page needs to be more prominent, IMHO.
I appreciate that you prefer to keep this $ request low-key. But the site really does partly rely on user donations, so I think it’s perfectly reasonable to make the link more visible. Just my 2 cents.
Thank you. Amazon has cut its reimbursements for many items down to 1% so our revenues from them are dropping. We do need reader support and I will work on making that clearer. We are also working on getting the ability to pay online via credit card so that those who don’t like PayPal would have that option.
Another thing you asked for is a page for all the ask@AAR posts.
Here it is: https://allaboutromance.com/the-askaar/
Two items, since you are working on it, I keep track of details and report :-)
1.
The homepage regularly understates the number of comments on the blog – right now, it said 2 comments for the comedy question, and there were 4
2. I need to login every time, even after a couple of hours, until now, the system recognized me for a couple of days when I came back
It looks great and working well. Thank you!
The link to see more comments is a Godsend. When all the new comments weren’t available on the homepage, I have just been going upwards from the number (in the address bar) of the last comment I looked at, which was TIRESOME.
Thank you for the all the improvements; especially my request for a longer list of recent comments! Sometimes things are so hopping on the site that very current comments to less current posts were getting lost e.g. someone adds comments to an older review.
That all looks very good, but I still cannot like a comment. I see you have already upvoted, when I know I have not.
I don’t understand that. I can vote for a comment. Am I the only one? Can you other guys vote for a comment?
I can vote for comments, it takes a second or so to register it, but it works.
Yes – although it says “upvote” and not “like”, but it’s the same thing, no?
Changed that!
Sometimes I can (just like Frankie’s comment); but several times over the last week it has not worked. It seemed as though I needed to be “logged in” e.g. it worked if I had actually posted something during the session. But I was able to like above before posting this reply to you. . . . ?
I can click and sometimes it says “you have already voted – which it did for Frankie above, though I had not and sometimes it takes it. But I never see comments with many votes anymore, zero, one, in this thread I see 2 for the first time in a while. >So to looks like it resets the numbers to zero. no clue.
Yep, same problem I’m having (and when i tried to upvote your comment I just got it!)
My problem is that it’s registering that I’ve already voted for something if it has a like – even though I’ve never seen the post or even been on the website that day. This only happens if a comment has a vote already.
It tells me I’ve already voted when I haven’t.
I have reported this bug to the developer. We’ll see what happens!
