Fah. Award season schmaward season. All things considered, there isn’t much I’m anticipating, because one by one they got struck out. And I’m a wee bit disappointed, because usually this is the movie season I look forward to the most.

There are some book adaptations coming out, but I’m not likely to catch them, mostly because I haven’t read them and I’m not likely to. So no Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Hugo (based on The Invention of Hugo Cabret), and Breaking Dawn. I have read I Don’t Know How She Does It, but I didn’t love the book (and I don’t love Sarah Jessica Parker), so I won’t go.

Then there’s the Sherlock Holmes sequel. Sigh. I was so looking forward to it, but then I saw the trailer, and my interest flagged. Ditto The Three Musketeers, which quite frankly looks astoundingly awful. I’ll go to either if the reviews come back semi-positively.

And I think if Puss in Boots had come out a few years earlier I’d be more excited, but now I’m just tired of Shrek, even though Puss is easily the best character of the series. Iron Lady, about Margaret Thatcher and starring Meryl Streep, looks interesting, but Meryl Streep isn’t really one of my go-to actresses; I’d go socially but not especially.

Which leaves me with a grand total of one movie that I am going to see, come rain, shine, snow or sleet: The Adventures of Tintin. I am a huge Tintin fan, and the entire cast and production team look absolutely amazing. Steven Speilberg directing. Peter Jackson producing. And Steven Moffat co-writing (of “Dr. Who” and the BBC’s “Sherlock”). And then starring Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg, Cary Elwes, Nick Frost, Mackenzie Crook, Gad Elmaleh – it’s like half the roster of Cool British Actors (minus Gad Elmaleh, who’s a Cool French Actor). And then there’s the whole motion-capture feel, which judging by the trailer manages the compromise between comic book and reality very successfully.

Four months to go! Which fall movies are you looking forward to?

I have really learned some new things as a result of your blog site. One other thing I want to say is that newer computer system os’s have a tendency to allow extra memory to be used, but they additionally demand more memory space simply to operate. If an individual’s computer can not handle much more memory plus the newest software requires that memory space increase, it usually is the time to shop for a new Laptop or computer. Thanks

One For The Money. Breaking Dawn. I already have movie dates for both…with women of course. Couldn’t drag my husband to either of these, but I’m looking forward to them.

Gail – I hadn’t heard about the reboot, but I had a look on IMDB, and the cast (voices?) look interesting. Katy Perry, Chris Cooper, Emily Blunt, Ricky Gervais, Neil Patrick Harris, Jack Black and Whoopi Goldberg? Very interesting.

The one I’m keeping an eye on is the latest reboot of the Muppet franchise, I haven’t decided based on the trailers that are out yet, but I would really love a new good Muppet movie.

The Adventures of Tintin looks really good, and I’ll definitely be going. Have seen the trailers of the next Sherlock Holmes and had the same reaction as you, Jean. I’m just hoping the film is better than the trailer.

I have a hard and fast rule: when the preview makes me cry, I don’t go to the movie. I’ve learned this the hard way, after being traumatized by “Old Yeller” when I was a kid. So, as much as I love Speilberg, I won’t be seeing “War Horse.” I had wanted to see it on Broadway, after seeing those fabulous horse puppets, but decided to give it a pass when I heard people in the audience were sobbing. Nope. Not for me.

Yes, Jean, War Horse is based on a book and a stage play.

I really can’t say I understand the need for North American remakes of Euro movies. The rationale, I get. But need? Nope.

Isn’t War Horse based on a book?

I enjoyed the movie already made of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (and its sequels) and when I saw the trailer for the Daniel Craig version, I thought “it looks just like the original.”

Re “I Don’t Know How She Does It,” I just don’t understand why another book set in the UK has to be moved to New York — just like Confessions of a Shopaholic, and others I can’t think of at the moment.

I am looking forward to War Horse, directed by Steven Spielberg.
