Eagerly Awaited Books – May 2016
We’re already thinking ahead to May books here at AAR. We all looked over the list of upcoming releases and had quite a few to add to our to-buy lists.
We’re excited to read Only Beloved, the latest entry in Mary Balogh‘s Survivor’s Club series.
- Lee: I always make a point of always reading Balogh’s books.
- Mary: Balogh is an autobuy for me. I have read all of the Survivor’s books and liked them all, so I don’t believe I will be disappointed in this new one.
- Maggie: I’ve been eagerly awaiting this novel for what feels like forever. What attracts me to this is of course, the author, but also the older hero and heroine. The Duke of Stanbrooke could have his choice of the Season’s finest – so why do his thoughts keep returning to the small town music teacher he met so briefly a year ago?
- Caz: George is the glue that holds the Survivor’s Club together but his own tragedies have yet to be explored.
We’re also anxiously waiting for The Devil You Know by Jo Goodman.
- Lynn: I was late to the party on discovering Jo Goodman, but once I started reading her books, she became an autobuy author for me. I love her writing style, and she writes fantastic characters.
- Jean: I don’t even know what it’s about but something about her long winded westerns are catnip for me. (autobuy!)
- Mary: While I have read most of Jo Goodman’s European historicals, I believe it is her American West stories that make her writing shine. I have read them all and there is not a stinker in the bunch. (autobuy!)
- Melanie: I’m on an American Historical kick at the moment, and Goodman is just fabulous at them.
Perennial favorite Linda Howard is back with Troublemaker. Yay!
- Mary: I have been a Linda Howard fan since the first time I read one of her books.
- Maggie: Many of Ms. Howard’s books have been DIKs for me. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will be too. A small town police chief, a military operative in hiding and an assassin determined to find him. Should be an exciting read!
Mary Kubica’s latest thriller, Don’t You Cry is also on our must-buy list.
- Shannon: This looks like just the kind of psychological thriller that will keep me glued to my iPad. I can’t wait for it.
- Anne: I’ve been on a psychological thriller kick lately and am very tempted!
- Maggie: A younger man, a mysterious stranger and a spiraling web of danger – sounds like Ms. Kubica has all the elements ready for a wonderful psychological thriller.
We do love historicals and are looking forward to the latest by Lorraine Heath, The Earl Takes All.
- Caz: There’s something about Lorraine Heath’s writing that pushes all the right buttons and I’ve been waiting for this story for MONTHS! It’s an unusual premise that’s going to be difficult to pull off so I am eager to see how she does it.
- Shannon: I just finished reading Falling Into Bed with a Duke, and Edward’s story can’t come soon enough!
We’re also eagerly awaiting:

I’m excited for Celeste Bradley’s new series. :)
Not a romance, but I am eagerly awaiting Guy Gavriel Kay’s newest book, Children of the Earth and Sky coming on May 10th.
Love Jo Goodman one of my few reread authors when I am in a slump. I prefer her European Historicals also but look forward to her new western. Also looking forward to the new Stella Riley. Didn’t see the new Madeline Hunter on the list but I will also buy The Wicked Duke.
Those end of May releases count as June titles but you can be sure they’ll come up in the June EA :)
I’m doing a happy dance about the new Stella Riley. I love that series and I didn’t realize Eden’s story was coming out this soon.
I’m glad that’s a welcome surprise :). I’ve been a fan of Ms Riley’s for years and am so glad she’s writing again.
In my callendar I’ve highlighted the last day of May – Lisa Kleypas’ Marrying Winterborne. And now that I’ve searched for my favorite authors – Elizabeth Hoyt’s Duke of Sin will launc on May the 31st as well. I’m off to complete a Holiday Request Form for that period.
I’m looking forward to the Kleypas book after meeting that couple in the last one.
Me too. The couple in Because of Miss Bridgerton didn’t wow me, but I can’t wait for this book!
Didn’t know Kleypas was writing the Bridgerton books now.
I’m really looking forward to Goodman’s _The Devil You Know_. Goodman is a favorite author for me, though I do love her historicals as much if not more than her westerns. I’m looking forward also to Linda Howard’s _Troublemaker_. Howard used to be a auto buy author for me, but I’ve been disenchanted for a while with her books, and so my fingers are crossed that the buzz for this new book holds up.
I’m curious to read a review of Eva Leigh’s _Temptations of a Wallflower_. And I have Anna Lee Huber’s Lady Darby novella _A Pressing Engagement_ on my radar, which is due out mid-May.
