Coming Soon – The Romances We’re Most Looking Forward to Reading in May 2022
It’s time to have a look through the myriad of new books coming out in May and, hopefully, point our readers towards the ones we think are likely to be the most engrossing and entertaining. As usual, it’s an eclectic selction and by no means a comprehensive list, so drop by and tell us what YOU’RE most looking forward to reading over the coming weeks.
Happy Reading!
Jayne Ann Krentz, writing as Amanda Quick, has another book in the Burning Cove series out on May 3. It is called When She Dreams:

Do read the book Slow Horses before watching it on TV. It’s an “anti-Bond” masterpiece and the film is captivating too. Raw noir espionage of this quality is rare, whether or not accompanied by occasional splashes of hilarity. Slow Horses is an “anti-Bond” classic from the same genre of thoroughbred stables as the fictional Harry Palmer, Carter or Cole, based on Len Deighton’s spy novels or the fact based Edward Burlington, the protagonist in The Burlington Files espionage series. If you enjoyed any of these you should delight in Slow Horses and vice versa … and to think I thought Kompromat was the name of a Silovik or FSB Colonel until I finished my MI6 induction program by authoring a thesis on Slow Horses in the #SloughHouse series and studying the epic fact based spy novel, Beyond Enkription, in #TheBurlingtonFiles series. Why mention these you might ask? Both series were rejected by risk averse publishers who didn’t think espionage existed unless it was fictional and created by Ian Fleming or David Cornwell aka John Le Carré.
Casey McQuiston’s quote for the Emily Henry book sold me immediately: “A total delight for anyone who’s ever secretly rooted for the career girl in a Hallmark movie.” One more book to be added to the TBR pile.
I’m especially excited for Something Wilder by Lauren and Book Lovers by Henry.
I am also interested in Adult Assembly Required 5/17 by Abbi Waxman (Bookish Life of Nina Hill) and When She Dreams 5/3 by Amanda Quick.
Love these Coming Soon posts. Thank you.
I’m looking forward to several books on the list:
See You Yesterday – I loved Rachel Lynn Solomon’s Today Tonight Tomorrow and am intrigued by this college-set Groundhog Day style romance
Everything for You – I’m behind and haven’t read book 4 of Chloe Liese’s Bergman brothers series but I loved the first 3. I think this book (#5) may be her first M/M romance? Regardless, I’m sure it will be good!
A Rip Through Time – Kelley Armstrong is a prolific author and I haven’t read all of her work but I did love the Rockton series and I like historical mysteries so I may check this one out.
Noelle Adams and Christina Lauren are pretty dependable authors for me so I am interested in their books too.
One book not on the list that I plan to read is Under One Roof by Ali Hazelwood. It is the first of a series of 3 novellas (releasing May, June, July) featuring STEM heroines. I really liked her book The Love Hypothesis from last year.
I have the Liese and the Armstrong for review, so watch this space!
Awesome! I always look forward to your take on books!
I ended up loving A Rip Through Time – takes a bit to get going as the author has to set all the elements of the story, but when it did I was hooked. Can’t wait for a follow-up.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I just finished a relisten of Jenn Burke’s Not Dead Yet series so I can finally start the Ashes and Dust series. After reading that the second book ended on a sort of cliffhanger,I was waiting until all three were out to start.
I’m curious about the Alexis Hall book, so it will go on my TBR pile.
I’ve been enjoying Josh Lanyon’s Secrets and Scrabble mystery series, so I’ll be picking up Lament at Loon Landing at some point. I’d prefer it on audio, so I may wait for that.
Lastly, I’m very eager for The Doctor by C.S. Poe! I’m just finishing a reread of The Engineer. I may try for this one on audio if it’s out at the same time.
I don’t think the audio of The Doctor will be released at the same time as the book, although I know it’s definitely happening. I’ll keep you posted.
Thank you! If not then I’ll probably read it.
ONE FOR THE MONEY by Skye Warren (May 10): This begins a new series with a couple first introduced in Warren’s short story, HALLELUJAH (found in the multi-author MEET ME UNDER THE MISTLETOE anthology). This continues the story of Finn and Eva, members of the rival Constantine and Morelli families (part of the multi-author Midnight Dynasty universe), who got to about second base in the earlier short story, so I’m figuring they’ll go a bit further as they enter into a fake relationship.
SECOND CHANCE AT THE RIVERVIEW INN by Molly O’Keefe (May 10) features a bad-boy rock star and a single mother who lost her fiance several years ago. The Riverview Inn series has been very angsty and I don’t expect SECOND CHANCE to be any different.
FALLING FOR THE ENEMY by Katie Golding (May 16) is the second of her Malibu Millionaire series of rock-star erotic romances. I recently read book one, THE FOREVER NIGHT STAND, and, while it wasn’t as good as her previous Motocross books (FEARLESS and WRECKLESS), it was good enough that I’d like to read the next book in the series. The book has a “You’ve Got Mail” set-up where rival promoters don’t know they’re talking to each other via text messages.
UNBRIDLED COWBOY by Maisey Yates (May 24) is the first full-length book in her new Four Corners Ranch series (she recently released the prequel novella, ONCE UPON A COWBOY). This is a single-dad/marriage-of-convenience romance; not my favorite tropes, but Yates can always put an interesting spin on things.
RECLAIMING HIS RUINED PRINCESS by Caitlin Crews (May 24) is the second in her Lost Princess Scandal series for Harlequin Presents. Crews never fails to bring the angsty heartache…and I’m always there for it.
Jackie Ashenden also releases a new Harlequin Presents on May 24: A DIAMOND FOR MY FORBIDDEN BRIDE is the first book in her duet, Rival Billionaire Tycoons, brothers who are (you guessed it) rival billionaire tycoons. Jackie Ashenden’s writing style fits perfectly with the HP template and I can’t wait to start this new series.
I have 3 books preordered for May:
I’m really looking forward to A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall. It features a transgender heroine who transitions from the battlefield of Waterloo and I’m intrigued to see how he writes this. I think it has a more serious tone than his recent books, more like that of his earliest books.
Con Riley has brought forward the release of Austin to 26th May. Austin was an interesting character in the previous book in her Learning to Love series so I’m looking forward to his story.
The last book I have preordered is Bad Actors, Book 8 in Mick Herron’s Slough House series – about as far away from romance as you can get! Book 7 was the only book in the series to have a cliffhanger……………………..
Gah! – I think the release date for Austin was announced after I’d put this together, or I’d have included it. The end of May is jam-packed with new releases – I’ve got so many books for review coming out on the same day (The Doctor will get priority, though!).
I’m not as far along as you in the Herron’s Slow Horses series, but I look forward to catching up. Good to be forewarned about the cliffhanger. And now there’s the TV series with Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb. I’ve read both positive and negative reviews of the series, but it does have great actors (not only Oldman but Kristin Scott Thomas as Diane Taverner); I plan to watch it and decide for myself.
