Coming Soon – The Romances We’re Most Looking Forward to Reading in December 2021

December is always a fairly quiet month for new releases, and this year is no different.  But I like to think of this month’s list as small but perfectly formed; maybe not as many new romances for you as usual, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some good books on the way! These are the titles (we know about at time of writing) we’re most eager to get our grubby mitts on this December. Please tell us which – if any – you’re most keen to read, and about any other goodies we might have missed!

Releasing 1 – 20 Dec 2021

Releasing 28 Dec 2021

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a comprehensive list of available titles, just a selection made by the AAR team. Purchase links are given where available at time of writing.

I really enjoyed Echoes of the Runes by Christina Courtenay so her new one, Tempted by the Runes will go on my list. Hopefully it will be reviewed here. I agree with Nan de Plume about the Bronwyn Scott is worth a look. The Crimean War is an under-used setting for HR. Finally, An Accidental Odyssey also sounds tempting. I like books where sailing features and the blurb on Amazon mentions that the heroine “eats her way round the Mediterranean” which sounds very tasty! After Float Plan coming top of my 2021 list, another sailing-based story sounds excellent.

Another month already? Yikes! While I usually end up reading “old” books, here are some two new romance releases I have been eyeing that I might get to read… eventually:

1) Saving Her Mysterious Soldier by Bronwyn Scott

I have read a couple of Bronwyn Scott’s Harlequin HRs before and liked her style. This story about a nurse in the Crimean war rescuing an amnesiac soldier sounds interesting. Yes, it’s tropey, but so what?

2) Wyoming Christmas Peril by Kathie Ridings

This is a debut author in the Harlequin Love Inspired Suspense line. The plot concerns the heroine getting taken hostage by a bank robber and having to be rescued by the FBI hostage negotiator hero. I like thrillers that take place in close quarters and ratchet up the tension through dialogue. Hopefully, this newby author is up to the challenge. On that note, I really enjoyed reading the Harlequin RS Hostage Rancher’s Rescue by Beth Cornelison earlier this month, which had a similar premise.

Not much on my December tbr thus far—but that never seems to stop me from filling my free time with plenty o’ books:

In an unusual move for Harlequin, Maisey Yates’s latest HP, CROWNED FOR HIS CHRISTMAS BABY, is being released December 7 (as opposed to the standard HP ebook drop-date of the first of the month). This is a royal romance that starts off a new series with subsequent books (scheduled for January and February of 2022) written by my other Queens of angsty-heartache, Caitlin Crews and Jackie Ashenden.

Amelia Wilde’s HOSTILE TAKEOVER arrives December 14. It’s the second book of her Wealth trilogy about a woman trying to save her father’s failing business and the man determined to exact revenge for the role her father played in his parents’ deaths. Based on the first book (NET WORTH), HOSTILE TAKEOVER will be very dark and uber-angsty.

Cora Reilly’s mafia-crossed-over-with-motorcycle-club romance, BY SIN I RISE, PART 2, arrives December 15. I read Part 1 which (par for the Reilly course) was full of violence, virginity fetishism, angsty emotions, and rough sex. Not for all tastes, admittedly, but I love Reilly’s “what if a mafia romance was written as an HP” style.

CD Reiss’s TAKE ME drops on Christmas Day. It starts a new trilogy with hero who made a supporting appearance in her recent DiLustro Arrangement mafia romance trilogy. TAKE ME is also a mafia romance that starts with the heroine being abducted on her wedding day. Reiss’s work is immersive and unsentimental—and she can get super dark, which I suspect will be the case with TAKE ME.

And one sad no-show: Kate Canterbary’s THE WORST GUY (part of her Vital Signs series) had been scheduled for December 28. But I see now it’s been pulled and you can’t even find reference to it on Amazon. Alas! I was looking forward to ending the year with a new grumpy-sunshine pairing from Kate. Oh well, there’s always 2022
