Coming Soon – The Romances We’re Looking Forward to Reading in September 2019

Difficult to believe as it is, we’re heading into tbe back-end of the year now, as Autumn/Fall will shortly be upon us and we’ll be looking ahead to the books we want to curl up with on those long winter evenings! Before that, though, we’ve got the final days and weeks of summer to look forward to, and here are AAR staffers’ picks for the new releases we’re planning on spending that time with.  We’ve got a mixture of contemporaries, historicals, mysteries, fantasy, adventure and YA romance for your perusal – and don’t forget to drop by to tell us what books YOU’RE most looking forward to reading over the coming weeks.

Permanent Record by Mary H.K. Choi (3 Sep)

Choi’s Emergency Contact was one of my top ten reads of 2018. This one is about a pop star and a bodega clerk, and as far as I can tell is a standalone. I am very excited to see what Choi has in store for me this time! – Caroline

Love at the Renaissance Faire. What more do I need to know? – Caroline

I had the pleasure of reading this book as a draft and I can say everyone is going to be in love with it! It’s the perfect rom-com to curl up with and finish late into the night. – Haley

This is one debut book that I’m really looking forward to reading. A rom-com against a backdrop of a Ren Faire sounds like the perfect story for me. – Keira

The Lady Rogue by Jenn Bennett  (3 Sep)

Jenn Bennett impressed me mightily with Serious Moonlight.  I definitely want to try her latest novel. – Lisa

Lisa’s review of Serious Moonlight intrigued me enough that I read the book and fell in love with this author’s writing. When I learned that this latest novel involves treasure hunting, exotic locals and a crytpic journal I practically swooned. Three great loves and one great author? Can’t wait to read it. – Maggie

The Marquis She’s Been Waiting For by Ella Quinn (3 Sep)

Ella Quinn is a new-to-me author who’s been on my list for a while, and the premise of this story is delicious enough for me to give her a try. – Keira

I’ve got a fondness for Ella Quinn’s historicals.  In her latest, Dorcas is looking for true love after being disappointed in her first season, and thinks she’s met her match in a newly-elevated Marquis, but is he really in love or just looking for someone to take care of his younger sisters? – Lisa

How to Belong with a Billionaire by Alexis Hall (5 Sep)

I’m really hoping this long awaited third book in the Arden St Ives Trilogy lives up to the promise of the first, and I look forward to Alexis Hall getting back to the standard of For Real or Waiting for the Flood and showing us how books in this genre should be written… no pressure! – BJ

It’s been a bit of a wait, but it’s almost over! After ripping my heart to shreds and stomping on it in the last book, I’m on tenterhooks as I await more of Ardy and Caspian – and hopefully, their hard-won HEA! – Caz

The Magnolia Sword: A Ballad of Mulan by Sherry Thomas (10 Sep)

I’ve followed Sherry Thomas into every genre she’s tried, and she’s never let me astray. Can’t wait for a YA Mulan! – Caroline

I’ll read whatever Sherry Thomas writes; her YA Elemental Trilogy was fabulous and I’m sure her latest foray into the genre will be equally so. – Caz

Beard with Me by Penny Reid (16 Sep)

I will be at my indie bookstore on 9/16 waiting for Beard with Me. This book will give us the background story on Billy and Claire’s romance. Part of me can’t wait. Part of me feels sick to the stomach with nervous anticipation. The series will end in November with the release of Billy’s book.UUUGGGHH! I can’t wait to read them both!!! This is a broken romance that we’ve seen throughout the series and its resolution is huge for Penny Reid fans! – Evelyn

Arctic Heat by Annabeth Albert (23 Sep)

Annabeth Albert has become a ‘must-read’ author for me lately, and I’ve enjoyed the previous books in her Frozen Hearts series.  This final one pairs a cancer survivor who is powering through his bucket list with a gruff Park Ranger who, really, are all wrong for each other.  Until they’re not. – Caz

Like Caz, I also enjoy the pairings in Annabeth Albert’s romances (the Portland Heat series is a personal fave) and anytime one of the characters is gruff or grumpy, it’s like waving catnip in front of me. – Maria Rose

When the Marquess Was Mine by Caroline Linden (24 Sep)

I’ve enjoyed the previous books in this series (the last one, An Earl Like You, made my Best of 2018 list) and Caroline Linden is one of the best authors of historical romance around. This third book in her Wagers of Sin series is based around an amnesia plotline, which isn’t my favourite trope, but which can work really well in the right hands. Fingers crossed! – Caz

Archangel’s War by Nalini Singh (24 Sep)

I can’t get enough of this series, and have been waiting anxiously for this latest installment, as the last book ended on a real cliffhanger. It looks like there are a lot of changes in store for Elena and Raphael. – Alexandra

I have to admit to being a bit behind on this series, but it’s still one I absolutely love. Nalini Singh’s worldbuilding is beyond compare, and her complex plots and swoonworthy romances make her one of my favorite authors of paranormal romance and so, even if it takes me awhile to actually read this one, It’s a book I definitely intend to buy on release day. – Shannon

I’ve been looking forward to reading more of Miranda Spencer’s work, so I’m keen to pick up Scandalous, her third novel and the next in her The Outcasts series. A straight-laced missionary meets a gorgeous sea captain… shenanigans are bound to ensue! – Caz

A missionary sells her virtue to a pirate captain, but to his horror, for all her innocence, she adapts to piracy – and his seduction attempts – with ease.  More tame-the-alpha goodness from Spencer seems to be on the horizion! – Lisa

Misadventures in Blue by Sierra Simone (24 Sep)

I’ve read a couple of Sierra Simone’s collaborations with Laurelin Paige, and they have been extremely sexy contemporaries with a solidly written and likeable characters. This one is about a senior police detective – a woman – and the young male rookie who’s trying to get her to break her rule about dating fellow cops.

Murder at Kensington Palace by Andrea Penrose (24 Sep)

The books in this series featuring a female satirist and an enigmatic, scientifically-minded earl has proved entertaining, with well-developed mysteries and a nice dash of romantic tension between the leads.  In this third instalment, Wexford and Sloane come together again to investigate a murder that’s rather too close to home for comfort…

Love and the Laws of Motion by Amanda Weaver (9 Sep)

I’m looking forward to Amanda Weaver’s second book in the Romano Sisters series. The first book was a hit for me. This book features Olivia – an astrophysicist and a computer hacker – sounds like fun! Amanda Weaver is someone I follow as she successfully writes CR and HR – not a common accomplishment!

I am ready to revisit the imaginative and titillating world of paranormal romance. (It’s been years since my last PNR read.) Memories of Glass by Melanie Dobson (3 Sep)

Ms. Dobson writes lush, historically rich tales which never fail to transport me to a bygone era. This story of WWII orphans and a young woman discovering shocking secrets from her past sounds enthralling and I am really looking forward to reading it.

Maria Rose:

Undercover by Rebecca Crowley (17 Sep)

I enjoyed Rebecca Crowley’s soccer series Atlanta Skyline, and her entry in the Rogue Nights anthology so this new series, London Nights, looks intriguing (though this is book two). Undercover is about a former foreign correspondent taking up the reins at a London paper and his ‘fake relationship’ with a woman posing with him undercover. Stranded at a country estate? Is there perchance only one bed? I look forward to finding out!

The Orchid Throne by Jeffe Kennedy (24 Sep)

I love Jeffe Kennedy’s fantasy romances! Her worldbuilding is always compelling and the start of a new series, Forgotten Empires, is a reason to celebrate.

Goalie Interference by Avon Gale and Piper Vaughn (30 Sep)

I’m always here for hockey romances and having enjoyed Off the Ice, the first in the authors’ Hat Trick series, the idea of two goalies competing for a starring spot on their team and being inconvenienced by their attraction to each other sounds like a winner!

Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore (3 Sep)

I’ve heard nothing but glowing things about this debut historical romance set in Victorian era Oxford, and I can’t wait to read it for myself.

The Harp of Kings by Juliet Marillier (3 Sep)

There’s something incredibly special about Juliet Marrilier’s writing. Her Seven Waters series remains one of my favorite series of all time despite the fact that it came out nearly twenty years ago, and so, I’m over the moon about the first installment in her new series. Everything about it intrigues me, and I can’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon or two than getting lost in the worlds she creates.
