Christopher Guest: Where have I BEEN?!
I’d heard about Christopher Guest, so when For Your Consideration came out three years ago I thought I’d better try him. I was so underwhelmed I didn’t approach his movies again until I got bored this year, decided to give him another shot, and watched Best in Show and A Mighty Wind. I repeat: Where have I BEEN?!?!?!?! Clearly, For Your Consideration was the exception, because Best in Show and A Mighty Wind are absolutely hysterical and tickle all my funny bones. I still need to see Waiting for Guffman, but in the meantime here’s a clip from Best in Show, about a dog show, with the fabulous Parker Posey as an uber-fanatic dog owner.

Hello, very good blog post. Informations are very usefull and saves me a lot time which I could spend on something else instead of googling :) Im waiting for more, bye :)
Every time I watch Guffman I decide it’s my favorite. Then I watch Best in Show and it becomes my favorite…until I watch Guffman again and so it goes. Guest lets his female stars shine. Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Catherine O’Hara are brilliant and so hilarious.
Loved Fred Willard in BiS, not so much in Mighty Wind. Actually thought the other dog commentator was for real.
Fred Willard was brilliant in Best in Show. Remember Joe Garrigola — his performance was only a slight exaggeration. (Also loved Willard in Guffman.)
We were talking about Spinal Tap earlier this afternoon. This troupe that Christopher Guest put together, and their movies, are great. Best in Show is a family favorite. Fred Willard as the insipid commentator just cracks me up. I didn’t love For Your Consideration and haven’t seen This Is Spinal Tap.
I’m a big Christopher Guest fan all the way back to the incredible, stupendous, and totally classic This is Spinal Tap. You’ve got a treat ahead in Guffman, which I think is still my favorite of all the post-Tap work. Thanks for treating us to the Busy Bee scene from Best in Show.
