What do you suppose happens when an immortal witch creates a love potion to bring her true love back to her? A romping good time filled with lots of laughs, that’s what!
Lilith Romano is a Gypsy living in Northern Italy in the year 1420 and has done the unthinkable and unforgivable. She has fallen in love and given herself to Sebastian, a gadjo, a man not of the true Gypsy blood. Sebastian is to be executed for a crime Lilith believes him innocent of having committed. So Lilith and her tribe must run for their lives, for the people feel she’s “tainted” and is responsible for enchanting Sebastian into his criminal act. Because of their love and Lilith’s firm belief in his innocence, Sebastian vows to find Lilith again.
Fast forward to present day Toronto. Single parent and news reporter Mitch Davison is moving into a new home with his son, daughter, and the family wolfhound, Cooley. As luck would have it, a fortune teller lives next door. Mitch goes to visit his new neighbor to prove to his stepmother that all fortune tellers are charlatans, but he gets much more than he bargained for. Lilith expects her true love, Sebastian, to be the man knocking at her door. Is he Sebastian reincarnated 579 years later or did Lilith’s spell bring the wrong man? You’ll have to read this book to find out, but I will tell you that you will definitely enjoy the ride!
This story kept me entertained with each page. I had to restrain myself from peeking at the end of the book because I really wanted to be surprised when the ultimate answer was revealed. Is Mitch the reincarnated Sebastian? Hard to say. He doesn’t remember the past life no matter how much Lilith tries to “prompt” his memory. After a while, I didn’t care anymore if he was Sebastian as I thought he was just peachy being Mitch.
I loved the characters in this book. They all brought light and fun to the story: Mitch, struggling as a single parent and very bitter from his recent divorce; Lilith, an immortal witch trying to recapture her true love; Andrea, Mitch’s stepmother whose fun-loving approach to life is giving Mitch gray hair (not to mention the fact she believes the four food groups are chocolate, sugar, fat and caffeine, my kind of woman!). Also included are Mitch’s kids, Jason and Jen, who are precious, and Mitch’s wolfhound, Cooley, who hates Lilith’s cat, D’Artagnan.
Mitch and Lilith share a passion that sizzles. Claire Cross does an excellent job of blending passion, romance, and humor in this story. Another thing I found very interesting was each chapter revolves around a Tarot card, the meaning of which the author goes on to explain. So what more could a reader ask for? Love, Romance, Passion, Humor, and a Learning Experience…this book is definitely one I could dive into over and over again. Read the book, I am sure you will enjoy it too!
