I Burn for You

TEST

I love sinking my teeth into a great vampire book. Sizemore’s hunky vamps can visit me anytime!

Domini Lancer works hard at her grandfather’s private security company. She loves her job and protects her clients very efficiently. Lately, though, her psychic abilities threaten to interfere with her work. Who is the extremely handsome man invading her dreams? When she is drawn to an outdoor market and discovers the mystery man there, she worries about her mental state. And when he shows up later as an employee of her grandfather’s, she knows things are not what they seem.

Alec Reynard is a Prime vampire. (Boy is he ever!) Primes are adult male vampires. As Alec’s mother tells Domini later, “They are proud, imperious, possessive, strong, territorial, intensely sexual, stubborn, haughty, protective, arrogant, handsome … they can be the most wonderful men in the world, or complete pricks.” Alec is all of these, but he leans toward the wonderful side. At the moment, however, he has serious problems. Those vampires who choose to live in the human world must take drugs that control their sensitivity to light, silver, garlic, and the like. Alec’s drugs no longer work properly and he has resigned his special forces commission to seek treatment in L.A. He is on the verge of becoming feral – unable to control himself enough to live in the human world. To make matters worse, he has discovered his soul mate lives in L.A. He doesn’t want to approach her in his fragile state, but fate delivers him to Lancer’s company for employment.

For fans of Feehan’s Carpathian series, this book has similar elements, but Sizemore has her own vampire structure and uniqueness. Her male vampires are alpha, without being too overbearing or annoying. Reynard seriously tries to avoid Domini and the bonding state until he has received treatment. However, because she is psychic, she feels Alec intensely in her mind and this escalates their attraction. The sparks fly, hot and fast.

Alec and Domini’s assignment is to protect Domini’s old friend Holly, a popular singer, from a crazy group sending threatening letters. Domini’s own life is in danger as well, and Purists, or fundamentalist vampire hunters, are always on the lookout for vampires. Amidst the danger to their lives, Alec and Domini carve out some time for themselves; however there are family secrets on both sides that must be faced. Alec’s family is a force to be reckoned with, no question there. Domini also has problems accepting Alec’s vampire nature, a matter made worse because he’s so close to going feral and can’t fully explain his situation to her.

I loved these two together. Domini is a kick-ass heroine – strong, but not hard, as demonstrated by her relationship with her grandfather. Alec is worth melting over. He is fiercely loyal and fundamentally tries to do the right thing, even to his own detriment. He has a wicked sense of humor and he and Domini spar wittily with each other as part of their courtship. My only minor quibble involved a lack of explanation over a tattoo of Domini’s, and plot point involving the Purists that I can’t explain further without spoiling the book.

I was so sorry to see this book end. My consolation is that it’s the first book in a series that Sizemore is writing. I can tell you that she won’t be writing the next one fast enough to suit me! For fans of the vampire romance, this one is a must buy, once you taste it, I guarantee you’ll like it. Trust me.
