Finding Master Right

TEST

Kate wants a Dom, but where does a girl new to kink even get started? With Banner Jennings, who offers to train Kate and help her find her Dom match. But she and Banner have hit it off, so why can’t Banner just take Kate on himself? Well, Banner’s not just a Dom. He’s a Master, which means he wants a slave who will submit to him 24/7, but Kate just wants to be a sub in bed. She agrees to learn about kink from Banner, knowing they will have to part ways once he finds her a Dom who wants the same things she does. Of course, they have incredible chemistry, and of course they fall for each other.

Kate and Banner are BDSM without angst, which is a nice change of pace, and hooray, Banner isn’t the clichéd club owner. Actually, he’s a standout among Dom heroes, more rounded and less armored, although equally wealthy. He is a dedicated caretaker, especially to his younger brother, and he wants to be a Master because he wants to take care of people he loves. That’s pretty much the sweetest reason I can think of to cane somebody’s ass and snuggle them after. Kate is also believable as a woman on a journey, especially in reconciling her feminism with her desire to be subordinate to a man in bed.

The authors (Sparrow Beckett is a writing team) show effectively that a D/s relationship isn’t any D and any s, that there is always the question of individual compatibility – which Kate has with Banner in spades but struggles to find elsewhere. I also really appreciated the emphasis on consent in BDSM, including safewords, checklists, hard limits, and avoiding sexual contact after alcohol. I didn’t like the fact that from the beginning, it’s predictable how the irreconcilable difference in this story is going to reconcile, and while these are accepted BDSM community terms, the words “Master” and “slave” are jarring to me in a way that took a while to adjust to.

On the whole, I’m glad I found Finding Master Right. If you think a kink romance might be your thing, I definitely suggest you give it a try.

  1. excellent book: interesting, funny dialogs, deep understanding of each character, interesting secondary characters, and also sexy.
