When super sexy animal trainer Antoine Monier decides to rescue the female tiger police confiscated from poachers in Germany, he gets more than be expects. The tigress, Tahira Kuric, is a shape-shifter like himself. But, Tahira is part of the Hayalet Ghost Tribe, a remote clan of shifters that are at war with the Sazi. As leader of the Sazi Cats, Antoine wants to help the young and beautiful tigress; but the other Sazi leaders demand that he hold her prisoner until they decide what to do with their lovely “enemy.”
Antoine’s compassion (and growing attraction) for Tahira is the least of his problems. His own right to rule has been challenged by his Grandmere, Gabriella, and seconded by his long-time enemy, Sazi Cobra Clan Leader, Ahmad al-Narmer. Gabriella contends that Antoine’s bad decisions have lead to the death of his own kin and that his negligence is reason enough for a coup. Antoine is reluctant to give up leadership or Tahira to the Sazi, especially since he senses that Tahira’s abduction is somehow tied to all the current turmoil.
Tahira was captured (in tiger form) while trying to find her brother, Rabi. Rabi, who according to Sazi visions is still alive, is destined to become the leader of the Hayalet Ghost Tribe. And, Tahira, his sister, possesses a unique power all her own. She is a power-well, able to draw upon the abilities and life-force of other shifters. Power-wells were believed extinct or even legendary. But, Gabriella confirms that the Hayalet girl is definitely a well and that her abilities could make or break the Sazi.
As Antoine and Tahira try to find Rabi, prevent a Sazi take-over, and control their own passions, they begin to see the pieces of an intricate plot that not only pits Sazi against Hayalet, but Sazi against Sazi, and even against the rest of the world. Antoine, Tahira, and their valiant compatriots race to stop the villains, but just who are the bad guys? Everyone seems to have an agenda of their own and Tahira and Antoine can’t even trust their closest of associates.
The newest in the Sazi series certainly lives up to – and even exceeds – earlier Sazi novels. True, there’s a certain amount of “reader’s lag” for anyone who hasn’t read a previous Sazi novel, but Clamp and Adams do a great job of filling in newbies without boring readers of the previous Sazi tales. Antoine and Tahira are by far the most interesting of the “Sazi” heroes. They’re smart and sexy and completely heroic. The story line is clever and kept me guessing right up until the end. There’s an unexpected betrayal that had me slapping my head for not seeing it coming, and tons of steamy sex. Tahira and Antoine are frankly smoking! This is definitely just the right book to heat up a summer night and if you are a fan of mystery as well, then, this is a must-have for you!
Captive Moon is bright and sexy with just the right mix of mystery and even humor. Once again, Clamp and Adams have proved that they are masters of the paranormal romance. Good work, guys! I’m looking forward to the next Sazi thriller.
