TEST
Wow, this book was a hot pile of nothing except tropes and angst.
I know, tell you how I really feel, eh?
I am iffy on NA to begin with, I admit. It’s not my go-to category because I have limited patience for some of the hallmarks of it – problems that can be solved by communicating clearly, characters not really knowing who they are so they begin to define themselves entirely by the other person, and anything that reminds me of Bella and Edward. However, I have a serious soft spot for professional athlete stories and I’m usually curious about single mom stories, so I gave this one a go.
Lainey Wilson’s life is a general dumpster fire. She’s a twenty-year-old single mama with limited resources and few marketable skills. Because reasons, she ends up in Dallas and meets Nick Jackson, the new rookie QB for the (incredibly fictional) Dallas NFL team. She’s skittish, but he’s determined and before long they start to build something. Then, because reasons (again), she up and leaves to start a new job in San Antonio but doesn’t tell anyone where she’s going. We do a time jump, Nick’s friend accidentally finds her and convinces Lainey to move back, and are we’re told that the pair have never stopped pining for each other. My notes say the jump was two years, but I was so checked out at this point that that could be wrong. The reasons that kept them apart are taken care of and they live happily ever after.
Ta da!
I cannot understand why they’re together (maybe Nick needs to save Lainey?), the Big Bad Dude in this is so one dimensional that it’s hard to believe he hasn’t been caught before even with all the cultural realities of misogyny in place, and Texas is way too big for me to buy how Lainey found her way home again as an accident.
If I hadn’t been assigned this for review, I wouldn’t have finished it. For me, that’s the #1 hallmark of a book I can’t recommend. Give this one a pass, folks. You won’t regret it.

Yep
This sounds delightful! I’m grabbing it, thanks
excellent book: interesting, funny dialogs, deep understanding of each character, interesting secondary characters, and also sexy.
I don’t think anyone expects you to post UK prices – it’s just a shame that such a great sale…
I’m sorry about that. We don’t have any way to post British prices as an American based site.
I have several of her books on my TBR and after reading this am moving them up the pile.
Sounds like the author was shooting for pure cotton candy wish fulfillment but missed by a wide mile – and that set-up sounds terrible!
