A Princess for Christmas

TEST

I am a sucker for a royalty romance. Give me a fictional European principality with a single ruler/heir and I am grabbing my comfiest blanket and warmest cup of cocoa and just snuggling on up. Add when it’s written by one of my absolute favorite authors? I waited for this one from the library and was basically the gif of Judge Judy tapping her watch until it arrived.

And boy, was it worth the wait.

We meet our heroine when she’s late for an important thing that we know brings her no joy, but is dripping with royal obligation. Her solution comes in the form of our hero, a beleaguered taxi driver from the Bronx who does his good deed for the day at the behest of his sister.

Leo, aforementioned boy from the Bronx, and Marie, aforementioned princess from random European principality, get off to a slightly rocky start but warm to each other quickly. We learn about each through the eyes of the other as the story goes on. Leo and his sister end up spending Christmas at the palace – and Ms. Holiday makes enough Hallmark movie jokes that I was delighted and appeased – and the romance is both physically and emotionally wonderful.

I loved, particularly, that their individual journeys ran parallel to each other; to realize that they weren’t alone in the lives they had been forced into and that they still had agency within those lives. It resulted in a happily ever after that made me sigh with glee.

If you’re looking for a royal romance this Christmas, pick up A Princess for Christmas. You will not regret it.

  1. excellent book: interesting, funny dialogs, deep understanding of each character, interesting secondary characters, and also sexy.

Voracious reader, with a preference for sassy romances and happily ever afters. In a relationship with coffee, seeing whiskey on the side.

This book was just a delight. I found Jenny Holiday books this year and she hasn’t disappointed me yet.

I wonder if this trope works equally well in the US and Europe? I live in the UK and it would be a stretch too far for me so it’s not something I would rush to add to the TBR pile. Anyway, we have our real life royalty sagas in Britain right now with the new season of The Crown, Martin Bashir’s fake bank statements and H&M stalking through graveyards in LA. More than enough entertainment!

Oh, I’m so glad this one is good – it’s still on my TBR pile!
