Set in that very same town as its Harlequin Duets partner A Hickey for Harriet, A Cradle For Caroline concerns the editor of the local newspaper, Jonathon Kushner, and his soon-to-be-ex-wife, Caroline. Ever since she caught him their bedroom with a naked woman a month ago, Jon can’t even get Caro to talk to him. The situation might not have been so bad, except that after a year of trying unsuccessfully to have a baby the couple was already having problems. The compound trouble has set the once-happy couple on the road to divorce. Can Jon’s mother and all their friends help straighten out their marriage?

Despite being able to identify more with working-class Steve and Harriet than with a couple who obviously don’t know what it’s like to not be able to afford, well, anything, I still liked Jon and Caro quite a bit. They’re both good people even if they make a number of mistakes. If this story’s about anything, in fact, it’s about mistakes, and whether or not a marriage can recover from them. On that level, it worked quite well. What I liked least was that it seemed to take these two entirely too long to come to some fairly obvious realizations, one of which is closely tied to the title, and which any experienced romance reader worth her salt will pick up on immediately. Nonetheless, the characters and writing held my attention, and I thoroughly enjoyed both stories.
