Over 1100 votes later, AAR readers have picked eleven books to compete for the Best Book of 2020. (I’d hoped for ten, but two garnered the same number of votes.) It’s a great list. All but one of the nominated romances received a DIK at AAR and the one that didn’t got a B+. This list pulls from several genres and represents authors new and old.

Now it’s time to pick just one.

The nominees (with reviews) are:

Queen Move by Kennedy Ryan

A Heart of Blood and Ashes by Milla Vane

A Rogue of One’s Own by Evie Dunmore

A Dangerous Kind of Lady by Mia Vincy

The Ippos King by Grace Draven

The Will Darling Adventures by K. J. Charles

Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall

Headliners by Lucy Parker

Take A Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert

Ten Things I Hate About the Duke by Loretta Chase

Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews

You can purchase these and all the original nominees at our Amazon storefront.

What a fabulous collection containing some of my favourite authors – Loretta Chase, Grace Draven and MIa Vincy. If it wasn’t for the late appearance of the Ippos King last year, I would have gone with A dangerous Kind of Lady. Now I can’t choose between the two of them.

If any of you have read Queen Move and loved it now LISTEN TO IT!!! Oh my goodness… Jakobi Diem and newcomer Eboni Flowers are absolutely amazing as Ezra and Kimba. This audiobook is a staple on my phone so I can listen to it whenever I want, whenever I want. Listening to them narrate while I close my eyes and I can see the story play out like a movie.

I’ve enjoyed most of the books on the list, and haven’t read some of them. I’m struggling with Ippos King, I don’t know why! Grace Draven’s books were usually the kind that I stayed up all night finishing, no matter what. This time, I haven’t been able to go past the first few chapters, and I kept putting it down. Perhaps my mind is just not in it. I so want to read that book.

A hard selection – these are all incredibly worthy books.

Incredibly tough choice! I had two favorites on here and could pick only one even though they were equally good. Still, that’s better than looking at the list and not liking any of them.

I realize all my “best of” books are audiobooks, and that brings me to a dilemma today. Boyfriend Material and A Dangerous Kind of Lady are both beautifully written, but very different books, and both have superb narrators whose skills increase the pleasure and emotional impact of the books. Do I pick A Dangerous Kind of Lady and Kate Reading’s taut, emotional portrayal of Arabella, or do I pick the incredibly endearing Boyfriend Material with Joe Jameson’s perfectly delivered humor and warmth? Decisions, decisions…
