Sex toys I have loved (NSFW)

Earlier in the week, I told you the story of Adam and Eve, the adult toy company that makes the world a better place with every sale. And I promised I’d share some of their products I enjoy.

Given that this article is about sex toys, it’s explicit, complete with anatomical terms. If that isn’t your jam, this piece probably isn’t going to float your boat. But, if you are open to adult toys, I hope you’ll find some–if not the ones mentioned below–that enhance your love life.

Adam and Eve Thruster

Rather like dating, finding the right vibrator takes both trial and error and an awareness of what works for you. I have never understood the appeal of–at least for solo use–vibrators without a clitoral stimulator. But, at least for me, many vibrators with a clitoral piece, are constructed with the assumption that all clitorises are in the same place vis-a-vis the vagina. I wish the designers had all read Mary Roach’s Bonk. I’ve tried many different vibrators and the one that has the best ability to both stimulate the clitoris and push pleasurably against the G-spot is the somewhat hilariously named Thruster. It’s expensive yes. But, it gets the job done.

ID Lubricant Assortment Pack

It’s safe to say that my sex life improved dramatically the day I discovered lube. (I had, completely incorrectly, thought it was only for old people.) A good lube is a gift. I’m a fan of ID Lubricants. They’re non-irritating, non-smelly, and last as long as you need them too. If you’re trying to figure out which one of theirs works best for you, I suggest trying this starter kit.

Fur Lined Paddle

While Fifty Shades of Grey isn’t my jam, I completely get the desire to dabble in the bondage/spanking realm. But, I hate pain. So this fur-line paddle is a gift. The fur-lined side is perfect for stroking and the leather side is somehow not threatening. It’s the perfect thing for incorporating into a love life that longs to be spiced but not burned.

Screaming O Vibrating Ring

Several years ago, I went into my local toy–adult–store and picked up one of these. It was cheap and I thought if it doesn’t do anything, who cares? It turned out to do a very nice thing and now I recommend them to anyone who wants to experiment without spending the big bucks. I like both the vibration and the ribbing on this. If you’re not sure why on earth you’d want to add a cock ring into your lovemaking, this will change your mind.

Platinum Silicone Cuffs

Perhaps it’s the bodice rippers upon which I was raised in romance. Or maybe it’s a desire to stop having to do everything all the time. But, for whatever reason, fantasies of bondage appeal to me. There’s just one teeny tiny problem: I’m unwilling to actually cede control of my body to someone else. These cuffs work perfectly for me. They offer the sensation of restraint without the terrifying reality. And they’re easy to clean!

I still feel like there’s something oddly taboo about lube. I’ve had sexual partners that were almost…offended…if I asked them to use it. As if I were calling their sexual prowess into question or something! *eye roll* I really only ever see lube used in romance novels with anal sex.

Yup. One of the things hormonal birth control does in a lot of bodies is thicken cervical mucus. So, more dryness. (Yes, I’m a sexual health nerd.)

Bless you for mentioning lube. Seriously, not everyone “needs” lube – though a lot of folks do and just don’t know it – but it can make sex better for almost everyone. ;) Safety Tip: If you’re using condoms, extra lube is an absolute essential. No, the lube on the condom won’t be enough, and no, it doesn’t matter if you’re the juiciest of juicy. Condoms and friction don’t mix – if you actually want the condom to do what it’s supposed to do, not break or tear – and a nice lube (no, not hand cream) will make sure there’s not a single moment of friction.

Now, can we get more lube usage in romance novels? :)

Not a lot of people know that vaginal dryness is a very common side effect of hormonal birth control. If you’re on it, you would probably benefit from lube.
