Shards of Crimson
I’ve been a fan of the Crimson City series since Liz Maverick’s first tale, so I looked forward to diving into Shards of Crimson. After all, what’s not to like? It’s four tales set in a world of filled with eternal love, unbridled lust, and edge-of-your-seat excitement and peopled with a cast of werewolves, vampires, and other assorted paranormal hotties. On the whole the book doesn’t fail to satisfy. These are stories filled with star-crossed lovers risking their lives (and souls) to save the world and each other.
For those who haven’t read any of the previous books, Crimson City is Los Angeles of the future, a true City of the Angels – and Demons – where paranormal, human, and divine live shoulder to shoulder. Well, sort of, anyway. Like any big city, there’s a great deal of friction between the “haves” and “have nots” and, in this particular version of the future, the “haves” are the vampires who live in luxury in soaring high-rises and spires above the city. The humans, as well as those of mixed heritages, live at street level and, the werewolves and other shifters are consigned to the depths of the city. Of course, there are many who don’t care for the status quo, so rogue organizations have developed to fight for equal rights, human rights, werewolf rights and so on. The four short stories are set in this dynamic and rivalry-ridden world.
