Edith Layton Passed Away This Morning
Long-time and beloved romance author Edith Layton passed away this morning following a long bout with ovarian cancer.
She leaves behind three grown children, her grandchildren, and tens of thousands of readers who enjoyed her romances.
Ms. Layton was one of the bloggers at the popular Word Wenches blog and Susan King reports that tomorrow – Wednesday, June 3 – a tribute will be posted in which readers and friends are invited to post their thoughts for the family.
All of us at AAR are deeply saddened by the news and send our thoughts and prayers to the family and her friends – as well as to the readers who will also mourn her loss.
Update: The Word Wenches tribute post is now live.

With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright infringement? My site has a lot of completely unique content I’ve either created myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my permission. Do you know any methods to help prevent content from being ripped off? I’d definitely appreciate it.
It’s a pity you don’t have a donate button! I’d certainly donate to this brilliant blog! I guess for now i’ll settle for book-marking and adding your RSS feed to my Google account. I look forward to new updates and will share this site with my Facebook group. Chat soon!
Dear Edith,
I am an old retired romance reader. I spent many evenings after work and on weekends sitting in the park travelling back in time to a more romantic time.
I wish you Godspeed and I am thankful that you are no farther than a book page away.

I have loved her books for many years. Now I am in mourning for two women this week who have died of ovarian cancer. My condolences to her family.
This is so sad. Her poor family! I enjooyed reading her blog and her books.
I’m so sorry to hear this. She was a giant in the trad Regency arena and will be missed, but she’ll live on in the wonderful books she left us.
RIP. my condolences to her family.
That really is too bad. She did seem to have a wonderful personality.
I’m amazed that she kept writing so regularly; I had no idea that she was ill. She was a wonderful writer and will be very missed.
I loved her books…..she will be missed. My heart goes out to her family at this time.
I’m so very sorry to hear this. My condolences to her family.
I’d like to add my condolences too. I’ve always enjoyed Ms. Layton’s books.
So sorry to hear this!
Not only did I enjoy reading her books, but her blogs at WordWenches were fun to read, also. My condolences to her family, friends, and fans. Ovarian cancer has touched my family, also; I would love to see a cure for all types of cancer in my lifetime, but especially ovarian cancer!
I remember her traditional Regencies especially fondly. Wasn’t she also one of the first to expand into full-length novels? I remember Ms. Layton, Mary Balogh, MJP, and Judith McNaught as trail blazers.
I’m so sorry to hear this. I always enjoyed her books and her regency romances are some of the best.
I’m sorry to hear this too. She was among the first authors I read when I rediscovered historical romance about 20 years ago. She seemed to have such an effervescent personality on her blog posts as well.
I’m so sorry to hear this!
