Hat delight
When I saw the footage of Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to the Republic of Ireland, my first thought was not about what a historic date this was, and now wonderful the two countries can take another step towards reconciliation and forgiveness, but … wow, what a hat! My next thought was, I want a hat like that! And my next, I want occasions to wear a hat like this!
Don’t get me wrong: I don’t want to be a princess, less a queen. I just wish I lived in a society where wearing a really smart hat would not mark you as weird, but as excellently well-dressed. I don’t even insist on a color scheme as daring as the one the Queen wore. Ordinary hats would be fine with me. And I’d also like really good hat shops to buy them in, of course.
My face suits most hats. As fashion now stands, I wear woolly caps in winter and fun straw or linen sun hats in summer. Don’t get me wrong: I love them. My mother-in-law gave me a voucher for the best department store in Munich this year (Beck), and I spent it all on a lovely Italian hat. One like this (the colors are different – mine is more blue-greyish with a pale beige flower – but the design is the same):
Here in Germany ladies don’t usually wear hats to weddings, and now that, following a colleague’s near-fatal bike accident, I have taken to always wearing a bike helmet, even the occasions for wearing a summer hat are getting thin on the ground. But I still love wearing them!
When do you wear hats? What’s your favorite kinds? And what do you think of Queen Elizabeth’s hats?

Our Federal Govt. is operating so far outside of its design parameters that this type of discussion is futile. IMHO the place to begin is reducing income tax which would force massive reductions in power and programs, bringing the govt. more in line with the founders structure. Only then can a discussion vis-a-vis federal and state govts. become worthwhile.
Thank you for another fantastic article. Where else could anyone get that type of information in such a perfect way of writing? I have a presentation next week, and I’m on the look for such information.
The very root of your writing while appearing agreeable initially, did not work properly with me after some time. Somewhere throughout the paragraphs you actually managed to make me a believer but just for a short while. I however have got a problem with your leaps in assumptions and one would do nicely to fill in all those breaks. When you actually can accomplish that, I would undoubtedly be impressed.
IF you’re still on the fence for more posts, sign me up!
You completed several fine points there. I did a search on the issue and found most persons will consent with your blog.
Your site won’t display properly on my iphone 3gs – you might wanna try and fix that
Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and all. Nevertheless think about if you added some great pictures or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and videos, this website could undeniably be one of the greatest in its field. Fantastic blog!
Hi there just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your article seem to be running off the screen in Internet explorer. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with web browser compatibility but I thought I’d post to let you know. The design look great though! Hope you get the problem resolved soon. Cheers

I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own weblog and was wondering what all is needed to get setup? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet smart so I’m not 100% positive. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
Wow! That site is amazing, Dabney. I love hats, but rarely find one that looks decent on me.
Now if I only had a place to wear my fascinator! I’m going to Europe with my husband this summer and plan to take it. I envision us eating at some glamorous place in St. Petersburg where my fascinator will fit right in. If I wore it here, out to dinner in North Carolina, I think I’d get some stares!
Dabney, just went to that site. WOW! those are some gorgeous hats. Thanks for the tip
I love hats and have lots. It’s hard for me to find ones big enough for my head, however. I just bought a fabulous fascinator in Boston from Galvinized Headware–check out her work! She’s amazing.

Rike, the hat pictured the queen is wearing is fabulous. Between the hats the queen is often shown wearing, and the hats on display at the royal wedding, makes me wish I had more hats. The only occasion I have to wear hats is to church. I belong to a traditional Baptist church, and some of the more mature ladies wear some fierce hats!! I never wore hats before, because I had too much hair and a rather large head. I have recently cut my hair and am thinking about getting into hats (even though my head is still the same size). I wear a little more casual attire to church than a hat is called for, but I have been contemplating looking for hats that are a bit less formal. I think hats, like shoes, are a fun fashion, and am looking forward to exploring this new (for me) option. Wish me luck!
