High Seduction

TEST

The Adrenaline Search and Rescue series is aptly named. Not only does the romance sizzle, but the action sequences provide plenty of heart pounding suspense. I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure through the Canadian Rockies.

Erin Tate is a helicopter pilot for Lifeline, an elite search and rescue team, and an all-around tough chick. She is somewhat taken aback though when a blast from the past arrives in the form of her ex-boyfriend Timothy Dextor. Tim is Lifeline’s new paramedic and he is ready to set the record straight with Erin about what went down between them years ago.

As Tim becomes a part of the team, Erin’s unease begins to subside and her resolve to keep her distance from him wavers. The attraction between them is high, but they have a lot of baggage to unpack as they navigate difficult rescues and dangerous situations.

Tim and Erin have great chemistry on page. They initially clash, but their attraction to one another is undeniable. They share a bit of kink, both having a fascination with light bondage and domination. And while this plays a role throughout the novel with Erin working through her need to be in control and make her own decisions, the book is not about the mechanics of, or explicit in, BDSM. Tim is respectful of Erin’s wishes always and allows her to set the pace of their relationship. Erin is able to come to her own realizations about what she wants and who she is. Her emotional journey and the evolution of her relationship with Tim grant the story the depth found lacking in most erotic romances.

The icing on the cake is the intense action. The Lifeline crew responds to multiple catastrophes, each involving daring rescues of civilians. At a few points in time I thought I might need CPR myself to get my heart started again. And though the action keeps the excitement level high, watching Tim and Erin learn to trust each other and work together as a team enhances their connection.

The only portion of the book that did not entirely work for me occurred when Tim’s friend Matt is introduced into the relationship. I was surprised by this development and puzzled at the necessity for its inclusion as the ménage is not part of Tim and Erin’s HEA. Tim indicates that this is wish fulfillment for Erin, but that’s not really a conversation that they have until Matt watches the two of them get it on. It’s all handled well within the text, but it felt odd to me and I was sad for Matt who does not have an HEA here. The author did not close the door on future encounters for our protagonists though, so maybe he’ll find a nice kinky girl in the next book and we’ll get some four-way action.

Surprise threesome aside, I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and their stories. I can’t wait to visit with the Lifeline team again. While part of a series, High Seduction may be read and enjoyed on its own.

  1. excellent book: interesting, funny dialogs, deep understanding of each character, interesting secondary characters, and also sexy.

I read romance of any sub-genre, but particularly love contemporaries. Well-written stories of any variety interest me though and I'm always on the hunt for my next favorite book. I love smart-mouthed heroines and tortured heroes, unusual time periods and just about anything medieval. On a personal note, I'm a political junkie, Cushing's Disease survivor, mom to 11 rescued dogs and too many cats to actually count.
