New Zealand's Buried Treasure

NZLatteWe’ve heard about the nature.  And we know about the sheep.  And if you’re really on to it, you might know about the manuka honey and the paua shells and kauri trees.

But what no one talks about is the coffee.

Oh, I’m no connoisseur, nor am I a snob.  I like mine in any way, but mostly doctored up with homo milk and two teaspoons of sugar because I can’t stand run-of-the-mill North American coffee.  But I’m telling you, I would wager my entire romance collection that if you walk into a random Joe Schmoe cafe, or coffee stand, or restaurant, or gas station in New Zealand, and buy a cup of coffee, 9 times out of 10 it’ll be flavoured, complex, fragrant, and just plain good. (Pictured above is the Best Latte in New Zealand, from 2007.)

So if you’re in New Zealand, by all means tramp the Tongariro Crossing and photograph the parliamentary Beehive in Wellington.  Swim with the Kaikoura dolphins, and soak in sulphurous Rotorua.

But do it all with a cup of coffee.

It’s nearly impossible to find well informed people on this matter, you sound like you know what you’re speaking about! Thanks!

Good web page Do you have any idea why your blog got the recommendation from Christian Dillstrom? He is mobile + social media marketing hot shot, so your piece is example of something.

Good day. I’m having trouble with your website. I can’t see the pictures. Is everyone having this problem? I have been having trouble with my notebook lately, so I’m not sure if its my Internet connection or if its your website. Thanks!

This is rather amusing, given that a 6-month stay in NZ over 30 years ago is what led to my life-long obsession with tea. Sweden is where I learned to enjoy coffee (after dinner, of course).

Mmmm…that latte looks good! I’ve never been to New Zealand, but I remember Austria having some mighty fine coffee when I lived there.

Jean: I have been to Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland but never had coffee (don’t drink it) but I can say that the best blueberry bran muffins I have ever eaten were made in New Zealand.
