Hi There. As a internet newbie I dont often make any comments. However, a site is a authority if it has stable followers who read, connect and distribute the information that you generate. Finding considerable resources like this website are very valuable. Fortunate to be very a miniature splinter of this website .. by commenting here! Kind Regards.

DressyBessy, the story for Duran’s Bound By Your Touch was indeed, good. Great, I think, actually. Don’t know what kind of historicals you like, but Sherry Thomas and Duran are shining lights. As for Anna Campbell, I have to admit, I’m not a fan of her books either. She’s a very different kind of writer than Duran and Thomas.
As for being “”forced”” to read something, I blogged recently about this. There is no Official Approved Romance Syllabus. Life is too short to read books you’re not interested in.

I have not enjoyed the pleasure of reading Meredith Duran–and she may be a fine prose writer, but was the story good? I feel like I was forced to read Anna Campbell a year ago and while Untouched had good writing, the story bored me to years.
I also think that Louisa Edwards’ prose is pretty awful, but I would have liked to see Julie James. I hope Victoria Dahl’s Lead Me On is nominated for next year.

Yeah!! for Elizabeth Hoyt for her contemporary and historical.

Where is Lisa Kleypas on this list. She deserves to be there.

I was surprised as well by some books not being on the lists. Still, I have to keep reminding myself that authors have to submit their books for the RITA and not everyone enters.

I am surprised that Jennifer Ashley’s book isn’t on the list. I’ve read very few of these books…Silent On The Moor,What Happens In London, To Beguile A Beast. I’ve got others TBR, and am making a list of more that I want to read.

Sandy, I agree that all three of these books should have made the list. It makes one wonder…

Sandy, how could I have forgotten The Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie??? My absolute favorite book from last year. And you’re right about Lisa Kleypas…good Kleypas is often far superior to the best from other authors…
So I guess there were suprises, huh?

To me, the big surprises are no nominations for Ashley’s The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie, Bound by Your Touch by Meredith Duran, and Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas.

I am very happy to see that Sherry Thomas and Deanna Raybourn are nominated, but very disappointed that Mary Balogh’s A Matter of Class is not listed in the best novella category. What really strikes me is the omission of Carla Kelly in the historical category. She consistently writes historically accurate books with authentic characters one cares about, and she does it in very few pages. I’m sure there are many readers who would buy her entire backlist if a publisher would print and market them.
I started to look up some of the titles by authors I haven’t read before on Amazon, and am quite surprised at the number of books that are already out of print.

I’ve read most of the Contemp sinlge titles and LOVED Kristan Higgins book this year.
I am surprised that Tessa Dare and Louisa Edwards didn’t make the Best First Book category. I really enjoyed their debuts last year.

Congrats Sherry, I wish Meredith Duran had been on the list too. I am dumbfounded by the fact that Nalini Singh and Meljean Brook are missing too. Alexis Morgan? And no Nalini or Meljean? Come on! In what universe is Ms. Morgan a better writer? I’m being a bitter Betty…time for me to move on.

I loved the Breaking News nature of this piece today! Thanks for taking the time Lynn and Sandy.

While I’m thrilled and delighted to be nominated, I really don’t understand why Meredith Duran’s name is not up there. :-/
She is the finest prose stylist of our generation. Surely that counts for something.
Agreed Sherry. I’m over the moon for you, and under the swamp for Meredith.
Glad to see the Carolyn Jewel books on there, especially Scandal.

I have read 11 of these and heard about quite a few more which is a big change from earlier years – I’m usually left scratching my head about what I’m reading because I’ve never heard of them! A very refreshing change.
A couple of my reads were the direct result of recommendations from this site: Kylie Brant’s Waking the Dead and Caroline Linden’s A View to a Kiss.

I was thrilled to see Elizabeth Roll’s Lord Braybrook’s Peniless Bride nominated. I have enjoyed her books and feel she is a buried treasure who desrves a higher profile. Congrats!
