2009 Rita Nominations

The calls are going out today to 2009 Rita and Golden Heart finalists. Official results are going up at the RWA site and Twitter is also hopping.  Just search for hashtag #rwanoms for a live feed.  (And, no, you don’t have to be a Twit to follow results.)

Developing story…

We can report first here that Sherry Thomas was nominated for Best First Book, as well as Historical Romance.

Susan –

I kind of had a similar feeling with the Snowy Night With a Stranger anthology. I thought the Jane Feather and Sabrina Jeffries stories were both good, but London’s was the one that got the nod.

It will be interesting to see who wins everything, though. I think I’ll have fun watching!

Once again I’ve not read a huge proportion of the books so am not invested in the winners in those categories. However, I completely disagree with the nominees in one of the few books I did read: in the anthology “”It Happened One Night””, I thought the Laurens story was a complete cliche and the D’Alessandro story ho hum, whereas the Balogh was good and Hern story quite strong. So of course it’s the Laurens and D’Alessandrio that are finalists — this is one reason I tend not to pay too much attention to awards.

That link to results does not work for me.

But there are some great books nominated for Best Historical Romance (in addition to Private Arrangements by Sherry Thomas).

I’d have a hard time choosing on that list, although I think The Spymaster’s Lady will have a lot of fans.

Congrats to all the nominees.

Glad to see Karen Templeton’s book is one of the finalists. It’s in my TBR pile.
